When they take that final ride across the drawbridge they will be missed, and those whose lives have been affected by them may shed a tear. Some however share the manly qualities that maketh the Hero and send him on his way with an Honour that befits all.
So it was for a Teacher at Palmerston North High School in Wellington, New Zealand.
Dawson Tamatea
He taught the boys for 30 years. Maths and Gym. The boys showed their love and respect.
A fine manner of Salute.
Few outside his orbit knew of him. His boys did. They are on their way to becoming men like him.

He is Honoured in the Tavern.

The video touched me :-)
ReplyDeleteSome teachers stand out as being extra special in being able to inspire their students a way that leads to a deep friendship. The hallmarks of a good leader.
Yes. I recall a few from my own days. A very few.
DeleteIt's good to know when we leave this world that we have touched someone:). This man can rest knowing he has and will be missed.
ReplyDeleteThe video was touching... A good send off.
Yes. So often is it that we leave the world no better for our being in it. We are stage-hands or walk -about players in the Great Story. ---- Although, even such have a place providing colour and movement. But the occasional individual has stature. Even if in his own small town. He earns the respect. He is loved. Shes too.
DeleteWhat is so fine about the send -off above is the actions of the boys. They keep a tradition alive. Not just of the Maori warrior but of the respectful, bowed-head. They came out. None misbehaved.
Good things are not entirely dead yet.
ReplyDeleteGood too that we can still recognise them.
