Save Kevin Rudd from ‘Aggression’.

The lads in the P&B were talking of volunteering for a ‘Protection Squad’ for poor Kevin Rudd. But they need not worry as Penny Wong has already formed a ‘Swat Team’ to guard the Prime Mendacist from Tony Abbott’s  ‘aggression’.

Yes, the Mad Monk went completely berserk on National Television. In the now well known and feared Abbott ‘manner’ the truth was told, to which Rudd leaped to his own defence with an incremental increase in waffle and bullshit and a dash of programme specificity interruption. 

Abbott, asking of our Glorious Chairman Kev in his quietly menacing, venomous  voice “Does this guy ever shut up?” shocked the audience.

Thug!

Gasps of horror at such naked violence and offensiveness were heard from many of the lefties on the ABC production staff. Some fainted. A small, pitiful scream of alarm came from one of Kevin’s loyal staffers. Her colleagues, roughly two thirds of the audience, had a first aid team with a deFIBulator rushed to her side.

But Penny Wong was quick off the mark. Flanked by a team of femi-sistas she immediately rushed to another  TV studio to denounce Abbott as a bully. The cutting room floor was knee deep in snippets about domestic violence and demands for him to be arrested immediately to save the poor victimised Kevin from further vicious attacks.

‘Cut, cut cut’, a favourite Ruddism became real.

Luckily for Mr Abbott the ‘debate’ infront of a live audience was not in Tasmania or a Police team would have had him on the floor and in cuffs before the screaming staffer hit her well practiced  middle C.

They would be wielding their Anger Management Course forms and demanding he signs up for the full treatment. Or else.

Meanwhile Kevin was still talking and barely noticed. His voice in his ear was all that mattered, as his creative intelligence plucked another four promises and $500,000,000 of taxpayer's money from his agile mind.

Back in the bar, it reminded Mark Steyn to remind us all of an American fellow, John Bolton, who ‘aggressively’ confronted a bureaucrat.

Boy, it’s just like that confirmation battle back in 2005 over John Bolton, President Bush’s plain-spoken nominee for UN ambassador. It really heated up.  Senator Barbara Boxer, the Democratic Party's comely obstructionist, charged that Bolton needs  "anger management lessons". 

I don't know about you, but nothing makes me want to hurl a chair through the window and punch someone's lights out like being told I need anger management lessons.  

So I was interested to hear about the kind of violent Boltonian eruptions that had led Senator Boxer to her diagnosis. Well, here it comes.  

(If you've got young children present, you might want to take them out of the room.)  

From the shockingly brutal testimony of Thomas Fingar, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Intelligence Research: 

Q: Could you characterize your meeting with Bolton? Was he calm? 

MR. FINGAR: No, he was angry. He was standing up. 

Q: Did he raise his voice to you? Did he point his finger in your face? 

MR. FINGAR: I don't remember if he pointed. John speaks in such a low voice normally. Was it louder than normal? Probably. I wouldn't characterize it as screaming at me or anything like that. It was more, hands on hips, the body language as I recall it, I knew he was mad.  

He was "standing up" with "hands on hips"!  

Who's he think he is – Carmen Miranda?

Fortunately, before Bolton could let rip with a "pursed lip" or escalate to the lethal "tsk-ing" manoeuvre, ...

....Fingar was able to back cautiously out of the room and call the FBI anger management team, who surrounded the building and told the deranged diplomat to "come out slowly with his hands above his hips". 

Well, I haven't been so horrified since …well, since David Gest split from Liza Minnelli and launched a multi-million dollar suit for damages because she'd beaten him up. As The Daily Show's Jon Stewart observed, "There is no conceivable amount of money worth telling the world that you were beaten up by Liza Minnelli."  

Likewise, whatever one's feelings about the UN and Kofi Annan and multilateralism, there's nothing that could get most self-respecting men to appear in front of a Senate committee and complain that John Bolton put his hands on his hips.  

At least, Liza allegedly beat David to a pulp. True, she'd recently had two hip replacements, so if she'd slapped her hands on her hips, she'd have fallen to the ground howling in agony, and David could have run for his life. Or, indeed, strolled for his life, given that she was overweight, barely five foot tall and a decade his senior. But my point is: even David Gest might have balked at complaining about hands on hips. 

Still, in the ever accelerating descent into parody of the Senate confirmation process, nothing is too trivial.

Just as in Rudd's performances.

This will go down in Australian Election history as the most pathetic performance by a sitting Prime Minister and the media ever.

By the time Senator Boxer and co are through huffing about the need for anger management lessons, Two-Hips Bolton will be able to walk into every saloon in Dodge and the meanest hombres will be diving for cover behind the hoochie-koochie gals' petticoats before his pinky's so much as brushed his waist.

The Australian People are agog, awaiting the next TV newscasts of Abbott.

Will he dive ‘angrily’ into the waves to save someone when next on life-guard duty?

Will he ‘annoyingly snap’ a page open in-front of the Aboriginal child he is teaching to read?

Will he ‘demandingly, expropriatingly grab’ a spade to dig the hole for a shrub at his next environmental day?

The ABC will be there to capture his naked aggression (with or without his Budgie Smugglers) so we can all see what a nasty man lurks beneath those evil ears.

War is a Drug

"Don't put your daughter in the war-zone Mrs Robinson"; that's what your sons are for. The Tavern talk turned to the awfulness of war tonight after Huey Lewis and the News played a few sets in the Music Room.

Huey was invited to play for us by Free Man, a regular customer, and was singing way back when about the dreadful effects of war on young men who had been to Vietnam. He reprised it for us and got us a'thinkin' and a'talkin and downing several large glasses of Fortitude with Clarity chasers.

Recent 'moves' by Militaries in the west to include women in front-line combat arouse much discussion focussing on the 'rights' of women to 'do anything a man can, and better', but have obscured the secretive aspects of what militaries do to young men to get them to kill other young men.

First let's hear from Huey. He turned his hit records over for us.

Huey is feeling his age these days but he can still belt out a song in that fabulous voice.

Sgt. Joe Biggs recently joined the Alex Jones Show to describe in shocking details how he witnessed soldiers in Afghanistan displaying careless ignorance of the threat posed by IED’s because the troops were high on Percocet, a prescription painkiller based on oxycodone, a Schedule II narcotic analgesic which is derived from opium. 

While US troops are supposedly guarding the poppy fields in Afghanistan (even as opium production continues to hit record highs),increasing numbers of American soldiers are becoming hooked on opiates, some of which are being prescribed to them. 

There is now an epidemic of drug use in the U.S. military. Figures show that, “Since 1999, failed drug tests have increased in the U.S. Air Force by 82%, and in the U.S. Army by 37%.” 

As Mike Adams documents, the Defense Department notes that “20 percent of U.S. troops are on psychiatric drugs, and that they are often handed as much as a 180-day supply of those pills before being deployed.” 

The most underreported aspect of this whole scandal however is that troops are in many cases being forced to take prescription drugs against their will, while those in the officer class are often exempt from both the drugs and the increasing number of dangerous vaccines that are mandatory for new recruits. 

“U.S. troops are being forced to take drugs like Prozac and Seroquel for anxiety and depression.  

Troops cannot refuse to take the drugs without consequences from their superiors.  

Resistance by U.S. troops to their orders is also running high. Some U.S. military patrols decline to carry out their “search and kill” missions and, instead, return to their bases claiming they carried out their orders,” reported Veterans for America. 

Other drugs like Mefloquine are also causing soldiers to go on killing rampages, such as last year’s incident when Robert Bales shot dead 17 Afghan civilians including nine children.

Earlier, Lt Col Morse told the jury that Bales felt “inadequate as a soldier and as a man” when he left his remote post in Afghanistan in the middle of the night and attacked two mud-walled villages, gunning down men, screaming children and elderly women. 

He opened the government's case by reading a 32-page “stipulation of facts” - an unbearably gruesome recitation of Bales' actions that night, describing how he executed a young girl who was screaming for him to stop beating her father, how he fired indiscriminately into rooms full of children and how he slaughtered 11 members of a single family, many of them still asleep on their blankets. 

“The accused placed his weapon on 'burst' and murdered everyone in the room,” Lt Col Morse said. 

Offering the most detailed single account yet of the attack, Lt Col Morse recounted the killings compound-by-compound and room-by-room, describing at one point how a widow was left clutching bits of her husband's skull when the killer finally left. Bales looked away as prosecutors displayed pictures of some of his bloodied victims.

The mind reels at such accounts.

Even the 'Blue' side can fall easily into atrocity. Young men are semi-conscripted' into war (In the USA a young man HAS to sign-on or he cannot get a driving licence or go to College. No such forced service is made on girls). This man had been sent to Afghanistan FOUR times.

Atrocity is 'facilitated' by the drugs these young men are forced to take. They take them to deal with the horrors they see. It is a small step to perpetrating the horrors themselves.

Drug abuse is also a core factor behind the shocking rise in soldiers committing suicide.  

A full third of all military suicides are attributed to side-effects from medication 

However, the cycle of drug abuse does not end for US troops when they leave the military. Once hooked on prescription medications, veterans are forced to visit psychologists who diagnose them with mental disorders in order to keep a steady supply of drugs flowing and feed the dependency. 

This in turn relegates veterans to become second class citizens, with their right to bear arms stripped as a result of being permanently labeled as having post traumatic stress disorder. 

One of the core reasons why the Pentagon is encouraging the mass drugging of US troops is to grease the skids for the Marshal Plan, a long term agenda that will see all soldiers permanently drugged in order to produce “behaviour-modifying and performance-enhancing characteristics”. 

The mass drugging of US troops is another aspect of government social engineering. It is about creating yet another huge sector of society – just like children in school or foster care – whose dependence on the state is secured via the method of artificially creating a dangerous dependence on drugs.

How much of this is true, I cannot tell. Alex has a reputation for hyperbole, But it resonates with observed behaviours and Court-Room testimonies.

Not that mass-drugging of young men is anything new as any American parent of boys may get to know when his (female) school teachers recommend and his school psychologists prescribe

vast amounts of Ritalin for his boyish activity.

Perhaps it is an American military phenomenon. In my time as a military man (over 20 years) I do not recall such misuse of drugs. Indeed the 'professional stream' I usually swam in disallowed even an Asprin when at work.

How many times are we told that "Women can do a household budget and should be in Government where they will do all the right monetary things and run a 'proper' home for us all"?

Fine words. Empowering.

Children are taught that in school by our female dominated (whoops, one can only say that men dominate workplaces and professions) education industry.

Empowered women teachers.

Here is one teaching the teachers. Or is she convincing parents? Getting the party-line just so.

Juliar Gillard ran a Government in Oz. Her Finance Minister was Penny Wong. Two women's heads are better than one, Shirley?

The left has long sought to bolster self-esteem by downplaying wrong answers in education. Everyone gets a ribbon; a truly disastrous lesson to teach when not everyone is capable of getting a job.  

And while the how is important in any lesson plan, in the end, the answer should still be correct. Amanda’s students are going to be in for a world of surprise when their first employer decides that doing the job correctly is more important than demonstrating “with words” an employee’s fundamental failure to grasp the concept of their task.  

To the credit of the presumably leftists audience, someone asked if teachers will still be correcting students on math tests. The simple fact that someone had to ask the question should demonstrate the atrocious nature of American education reform.  

The question “are we still going to correct wrong answers” would seem incomprehensible in a system of honest instruction.  

Amanda, however, stumbles through a very entertaining non-answer:  

“We want our students to compute correctly but the emphasis is really moving more towards the explanation, and the how, and the why, and ‘can I really talk through the procedures that I went through to get this answer; and not just knowing that it’s 12, but why is it 12? How do I know that?” 

Well. . . Amanda, if they answered “11”, my guess is they won’t be able to answer “how do I know that” to a satisfactory degree.  

Well, 3 + 4 = 7, and both 3 and 7 are prime numbers. This leaves only 4 left, so we add it to our answer of 7 which is, of course, 11. Another prime number. . . How’d I do? Do I pass?  

What kind of world do we live in when math becomes a philosophical essay, and not a system of numbers, arithmetic, and simple truths?  

Well, it’s the same type of world that gives ribbons out to “honorary mentions” and lets every child star in the Christmas “winter” musical.  

And this is at the centre of Common-Core. At its heart is not an intent to better our failing school system (after all, you don’t do that by praising kids who get basic multiplication wrong) but to instil an altruistic sense of self-worth and liberal flexibility.  

To the American left, school should be an instrument to instruct children that they can be anything they want, and that the most important thing is life is that you get an “A” for effort.  

Of course, I wanted to be an astronaut. . . And it doesn’t matter how hard you try, if you can’t answer the multiplication problem “3 x 4”, you’re not very likely to move into the highly competitive world of extra-terrestrial exploration (although you could run for congress as a Democrat). 

Amanda’s purported concentration on making sure children understand what they are taught certainly has its place in the classroom. . . Right behind getting the right answer.  

But don’t worry: People like Amanda will soon be writing up your child’s lesson plans.

A loud bang woke folks from their slumbers in Japan yesterday. As ominous pictures showed, volcanic smoke billowed from one of Japan's most active volcanoes, Mount Sakurajima, as it erupted for the 500th time this year.  500 times !!

One wonders if anyone has managed a night's sleep at all this year.

At 5000m, this is the highest plume of ash recorded from the mountain since 1955, and caused darkness and ash falls over the centre of nearby Kagoshima city. Situated on the southern Japanese main island of Kyushu, the 1,117 metre (3,686 ft) volcano began erupting on the night of August 18.

I looked out from the Tavern and could just about see it in the distance (by standing on a chair if you must know)  and I could see our own Mt Wellington which at a good 1000 feet higher has been idle since Lord Harry knows when and far less interesting in that regard. Mt Welly is often just as windy though.

The bang was like Nuclear bombs going off, some claimed. And lets face it, there are still some Japanese around who can remember.

Joy is the bestest friend. It's her drums up there on the sign. She is so busy chasing down Obama and his hordes that she only occasionally comes by to play them. This time she wanted to drum up a storm.

The big bang had reminded her of North Korea although when I asked if she thought Kimmy had done it as a sort of 'practice' for his promised annihilation of America, she didn't say yes.

I’m aging myself here, but I remember the Cuban Missile Crisis. I was only a kid, but I do remember asking my dad why he was digging a big hole in our back yard in Naples, Florida, one Sunday afternoon in broad daylight. 

As I remember, he didn’t sugarcoat it:

“We might get hit by a bomb in a few days, and we’ll be safe in this hole.” he said.
“Will that bomb kill us?”
“Yes. But, I think we’ll be safe in the hole. Go get some canned beans from mom.

America is just as vulnerable now from nuclear attack as it has ever been..and with each new President many of us ask ourselves, “Will THIS one be the one who will refuse to let go of power?” 

After all, all any of them is a good crisis as an excuse–to hang on.

In 2011, Obama negotiated an arms reduction treaty with Russia, the so called START treaty, in which both countries agreed to reduce their warhead count to 1,555. America and Russian also limited their launchers to 700. In convincing the US Senate to support the treaty, Obama promises to modernize America’s existing nuclear assets a promise he subsequently abandoned.  

According to Wiki, Current stockpile is 5,113.

Whatever the number (55,000 have been built just in America since the late '40's) it is still enough to cause devastation throughout the Planet.

Recently it was reported that our nuclear facilities were ‘dangerously” vulnerable to attack–due to failing recent mock security tests—- and leaving many places like the Bay Area and Denver vulnerable to a detonation that would “dwarf” the impacts of Chernobyl. If we are attacked–Obama will be playing cards with Reggie Love on Air Force One. 

And she was back to Dinesh for a flourish:

While the defense department is being cut to the bone, other programs like health care and green technologies are bloated with money. Obama shows no evident interest in reducing overall spending only in reducing military spending. 

Obama’s hope, is that fear will keep America humble. Call it humility through vulnerability. And in this way Obama hopes that America will stop acting like the evil empires. 

Not that this old King turned Taverner believes a word that comes from a Politician's mouth nor his legions of Court Jesters.  And believe me, all those diplomats attending disarmament conferences multiply by the year.

Did you know that OXFAM has a Director of Disarmament?

Huge salaries too, these Charity Chappies.  More than the PM in many cases. But more on that another day.

One wonders just how many nuclear weapons America needs.

And if 'need' is the appropriate word for America one could argue that everyone else has the same 'need'.  And if American politicians think that 300 or 500 or 1000+ are 'appropriate' for America, how many should Botswana have? Or Tonga?

Should semi-independent States like Tasmania (we are as independent in our Federation as West Virginia is in America, and about the same size) have its own modest nuclear arsenal? If America has 1550 (or 5000) I reckon that means 100 or 31 per United State. Even with a nod to modest ambition and even more modest levels of paranoia, Tasmania should have around 20 at that rate.

Maybe we could start with the less costly infrastructure......How about just a book of codes and work up from there? The Tasmanian armed forces could at least play scrabble.

Reducing the amount spent on America's armed forces might go a little way to stimulating other parts of the American national overkill Departments of This and That to reduce theirs too and I reckon you and even I might just be a little better off all round.

The last great world empire used to get by in the 'domination' game with the 'Two Navy Dictum'. It was a rough and ready measure of Might (and of course, 'Right'). By that measure the British maintained dominion over one quarter of the world simply by having a Navy that was as powerful as the next two biggest navies combined.

America has Navy, Army, Marines, Air Force and even a 'space corps' that is three times  bigger and more powerful than  

 the rest of the WORLD combined.

A tad over-doing it I should think. And the cost is of course far more than three times the rest because, of course, America has to have this year's best and be able to buy the next incremental improvement next year.  
 
Smaller sized nuclear bombs for bigger bangs for almost totally devalued bucks.  I wonder if the Tavern accounts can run to just one personal nuke or do I have to be content with a North Korean one with my name written on it.

Laughing at Single Mums

It is not often that a claim to being a 'single mum' raises a laugh of derision. Mostly we are sympathetic to single parents burdened with raising children alone.

I hasten to say that it was not we who laughed.

It was not we in the bar that derided the single mum.

Widows and widowers used to be the larger proportion of single parents, one spouse having died far too early.  Sympathy was always there for them, and in the main, practical support from family and friends.

Today, of course, it is divorce that makes for the largest proportion, generally (70% by some accounts) initiated by the mother who seems to place her children and their father in a very second place. The next largest proportion seem to be young women who have chosen to be mothers without even bothering to marry in the first place.

Sympathy is harder to muster. Most taxpayers who are expected to support such single  mothers (and a very few single fathers) get mightily peeved, especially when every last vestige of kudos is taken by the 'Government'.

There are many young and older single parents doing a fine job under trying circumstances. Even the feckless may have some mitigation. Many are raised in climate of encouragement, largely under the Feminist influence of 'I can do whatever I like with my body'. So long as YOU pay for it.

But even the feckless and the deliberately self-determined 'singles' with kiddies must be looking in astonishment at Michelle Obama.

More, they ought to be scandalised by this example of sympathy-theft.

Single mum cries for sympathy.

 

She claims to be one of the new victim class. Young Andy was in the P&B shoving a long pin in Michelle's risky balloon.

The United State's first lady inadvertently assumed a crown too many when she described herself as a "single mom" during an interview with a local CBS affiliate.  

It's consistent with a pattern of myth-making in this uber-liberal family in which Mr. President dreams of a father he seldom knew but whose weight in the future president's personal narrative looms larger than the liberal professors who instructed him in politics 20 years later.  

It's shadows of the virgin birth of Jesus, in which the father was moved to the shadows in the language of myth - fathers that are important purely because of their political status and implications but who are written out of the narrative about children's lives in favor of the modern "single mom" mythology.

Ah yes, her Husband, the deadbeat dad.

Is he single too?

Why would those false words about single motherhood roll so easily across the tongue of a woman who is famous for one singular reason: her husband?

It would appear to be because they are golden threads in a robe of female godliness constructed in the mythology of the far left.  

It's a political narrative that constructs victims who must be rescued from the hands of villains by heroes of the left.  

In todays leftist mythology, our heroes often see themselves as both victim and hero.  

Setting aside for a moment the First Lady's false claim to the Single Mom throne, what does this term "single parent" even mean?  

In most cases, it means an unmarried parent who gets frequent days off from parenting not afforded those parents working together in a more typical parenting pair.  

It often means a parent who, in addition to frequent days off without parental obligations, gets a regular paycheck dubbed "support" for their role - a paycheck often combined with income from a second adult household member who shares household expenses. 

Single indeed. Mrs Obama has household staff that would be the envy of any Antebellum plantation owner. A combined payroll in excess of $1,000,000

- which includes her own attorney, three schedulers, four social secretaries, three press secretaries, two policy directors and a chief of staff with two deputy chiefs of staff.

The First Victim's staff, the 22 aides working under her command aren't the end of her household staff. She has cooks. She has cleaning staff. She has chauffeurs. She has security staff. Her house even has its own doctor. She has aides at her beck and call in Washington and anywhere she travels in such luxury and style befitting the family of a world leader.  

Even if she were the unmarried mother of her children, with that many support staff at her side, how could anyone claim the woesome title of "single parent"? How could that be anything like being "single"?

It continues to strain credulity, the lengths of intellectual sleight-of-hand to which elite women will go to try and reconcile the impossible conflict in their own lives between the requisite "hear-me-roar" success narrative, and the just as mandatory "oppression" themes that such women must juggle.

The results are generally comically incongruous, and the media continue to suck them up as if they actually made some kind of credible sense.  

Ultimately, it comes out making their claims look as if they are  

calling femaleness itself an inherent disability  

that can never be cured,  

only compensated for.  

Naturally, however, men continue to be to blame for this.

Michelle is a victim in the Marie Antoinette mode.

I wish her the full experience.

Perhaps she is descended from Marie's cats which she had in Maine (a dept in France) which she shipped to America when planning to escape the revolution in France.

They became the Maine Coon breed.

Michelle is at least one part already, wherever she came from. 

If I were a woman, single mother or otherwise, I would be OUTRAGED at Mrs Obama's cheap shot at playing the victim card.

Is she stupid? Her vanity and sense of entitlement seem to have no boundary in sight.

I hope no-one is advising her to take a holiday to 'rest'. She seems to go to an exotic location - with her staff - every other friggin' month.

She goes with er.... whassname again? Oh yes The President. Her Husband. The Father of her children. The MAN who seems needs to be excised from her life so that she can be a 'victim'.

Perhaps she can make that reality in the near future too.

The Taverner's Vote

Oz is soon to go to the Elections for a new Government. Several customers have asked me what my voting intentions are. Few are satisfied with my long-held view of 'A Pox on all their Houses'.

The man of Integrity, of course, may well look askance at the political field but nevertheless he must refrain from loss of all hope. He must take what small part he has in the life of the World and use it as best he can.

He must seek counsel from his own Conscience.

The media in Oz is firmly 'left-wing' and in thrall to the curse of Cultural Marxism that has swept the West over the past 40 years, coloured as it is by the approved political correctnesses and feminist mendacities. In the spirit of 'free-speech' newspaper commentary columns are littered with the whines and calumnies of millions of fellow-travelling huskies pulling the Labour sledge.

Sledging is the name of the game.

Let us look at just one of the candidates. Mr Tony Abbott.

Mr Abbott is disliked by the lefty sheeples, the feminists, the PC crowd. Frankly, the applause of any of these mobs is a sound pointer. What they approve of is a litmus test of one's own Integrity. Similarly what they dislike is like a sign-post to where you should be going.

Very occasionally though a lefty recants. Or momentarily lets a few truths see some light. So I was particularly pleased when a regular customer, Peter H, stood at the bar and read out a few words from an ex-Labour leader.

Overheard last week: "It's such a shame there isn't someone other than Tony Abbott as alternative Prime Minister. We think the Gillard government is bad for the country, but it would be better if we had another Opposition leader to vote for."

It caused me to ask why that view might exist given Abbott's background, and I wondered if it might be that people do not know his history. So, I have put together some information which might help get a better understanding of the man. 

Abbott graduated from the University of Sydney with degrees in Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Bachelor of Economics (BEc). Then he became a Rhodes Scholar at Queens College Oxford UK  in Politics and Philosophy. He also won a boxing blue at Oxford. He married Margaret in 1987 and has three daughters.  

He is a member of the congregation of the Catholic Church.

He was involved in student politics, but beyond that, biographer Michael Duffy, wrote that during his student days he  "........saved a child who was swept out to sea. Another time, he helped save children from a burning house next to a pub where he was drinking.  

On each occasion he disappeared before he could be properly thanked"

Forget about every other Life-saver wearing the same.

He is a member of Manly's Queenscliffe SLSC, (Surf Life Saving Club)  and a member of the  New South Wales Rural Fire Service, both of which he joined before it was politically expedient to do so. He spent several weeks teaching in  remote Aboriginal settlements in Cape York in an effort  'to familiarise himself with indigenous issues'.

If you are wondering where some of the negativity attributed to Tony Abbott comes from, go on to the Net and have a look at the comments which followed, 2 years ago, when he was asked by the Women's Weekly

"What advice  would you give your three daughters on sex before marriage ?" 

He told the magazine: ‘’I would say to my daughters, if they were to ask me this question …it is the greatest gift you can give someone, the ultimate gift of giving and don't give it up to someone lightly." 

Yet, if you were to read many of the comments on the Internet and the print media at the time, you could be forgiven for thinking he was attempting to impose his will on all females in Australia, had ranted against women, had argued for Muslimlike chastity, and so on...................  

See for yourself - Google it ! Gillard's response was to accuse Abbott of "lecturing women"??? 

Abbott has had a history of being told by 'ABC types' that he lacks compassion, does not understand homosexuality or homosexuals, avoids situations where he might need to face up to gay relationships, and so on.  

Again, because he was not prepared to reveal personal issues of others (ethics, principles,?), he did not speak about his own sister's lesbian relationship and the part he played in supporting her. It would have been an easy defence for him, but in line with his principles and values, he chose not to use it.

Granted, he is not a super smooth, off the cuff, speaker, and does not fit the orator mould. But when he is compared to the glib tongues and untrustworthiness of Gillard, Rudd, Swan, etc., it is not difficult to determine which attributes are more important for the leadership of Australia. 

After Abbott completed his studies, he became a journalist for The Bulletin and also the Australian. For a time he was plant manager for Pioneer Concrete, then became press secretary for the then Opposition Leader, Dr John Hewson. He was elected to Parliament in 1994 at a bi-election. He has held various Ministerial posts and his actions in those roles are a matter of public record . His work ethic is unquestioned. 

He was dismayed at the policies of former leader Malcolm Turnbull relating to ETS, and following widespread disaffection with Turnbull's stance among Liberal Party members,  threw his hat into the ring, as did Joe Hockey, for leadership of the Liberal Party. Abbott was successful. At the time, the polls were running strongly against the Liberal Party (in the 40% approval range), while Kevin Rudd enjoyed figures around 60%Within a short space of time, with Abbott as leader, those figures changed to such a degree that Rudd was replaced in the now infamous "faceless men" coup which installed Gillard.  

Since that time, Abbott has maintained constant focus on the ever widening circle of disasters associated with the Gillard government to the stage where support for that government now hovers around the 30% mark.

Abbott, strikes me as a person of integrity, he has values in which I too believe, and ethics based on his Christian beliefs.  

I would much rather place my trust in someone who, in his actions, has shown he is what he says,  

rather than someone who will say anything to gain a prospective advantage for themselves.

Now if someone cares to stand in the P&B and recite the words of an ex-Liberal Leader praising Kevin Rudd, I will be happy to let them read them out just as loudly here.

Meanwhile Mr Rudd's colleagues are doing a good enough job of showing his character for what it is.

Not that any of the above is an indication of where my vote will go, mind you. But it is heartening when a lefty recants.

Another lefty recanted recently. A Chinese chap who has been a 'Red Guard'.

This poor soul, taken by evil in his younger years, has had a life of immense guilt. And guilty he was. He even denounced his own mother and watched her being shot. for failing to kow-tow 'sufficiently' to Maoist thugs. He had a young fellow neighbour shot too for having had a grandfather who owned a plot of land.

a 61 year-old retiree and former “Red Guard” Liu Boqin posted a personal apology this month in the advertising section of a respected Chinese print magazine Yanhuangchunqiu.  

Red Guards were a “paramilitary social movement of young people” who inflicted a great deal of torment during the early period of the Cultural Revolution (1966 and 1967) in the name of re-making an ancient society.  

Liu wrote that he was “immature and ignorant” in those years. He apologized for the “harassment” he delivered upon “school teachers, classmates, and their families;  

“upon painful reflection in my later years, [I realize that] although I was wrapped up in the environment of the ‘Cultural Revolution,’ my personal responsibility for my own evil actions will never vanish…I apologize to all of you.“

The Tavern would welcome this man.  He is on a road to redemption.

The 'left' in the West are intellectually immature and much slower to inflict such evil as the Red Guard. But make no mistake when looking at evil. It comes. sometimes, wearing lipstick and handing out taxpayer's monies with one hand and taking more with the other. It's aim is antithetical to Humanity.

The 'Left' in the West - Labour in the UK and Oz, Democrats in the USA - are GUILTY of wreaking immense damage on our society.

Under them abortion has exploded, marriages have been shattered, men have been demonised, economies have been driven into poverty-inducing debt.

A Pox on their houses at least.

Mr Abbott appears to be a 'Good Man'.

Another good customer, Yan, asked for my opinion of what is a 'Good man'.

I said to him: 

 A 'Good Man' will acknowledge a Standard. An Ideal.

 A 'Standard' is a flag. Something held in veneration. Something to gather around. Few get to touch it.

 We strive. We try to get close. It is 'just ahead'. Maybe out of reach right this minute, but we are marching toward it.

 The 'Ideal' I constantly put here IS a man of Integrity. An Authentic man. He strives for intellectual honesty. He considers the next man - yea and woman - to be a human being of approximating equal status in the eyes of a Higher Standard, a Higher Power. He sees the person and the actions of the person as distinct.

 He monitors his own actions and words. He challenges them even as they exhibit themselves. He Judges himself, sometimes mitigating his actions but only when honest. He has a Conscience. He corrects himself. He does not 'excuse' himself.

 He acknowledges his own locus of control. He resists controlling others even when he would 'like' to, because he knows he cannot.

 He examines his 'qualities'. He constantly finds them to be lacking just that little bit that would enable him to be the 'Ideal' that he strives to be. He strives on.

He teaches his children. He teaches his friends. He does both through his example. He cooperates. He 'joins' in with them. He does his share of the heavy lifting.

 His example is often not good enough in his own eyes but that makes him strive to be even better.

When a man, a male rather, marches away from the Standard, the Ideal; when he would rather take the path walked by the rabble, the liars, the haters, the hysterics; when he venerates a dirty flag, a sullied flag, a flag raised by the Left, the feminists, the corrupt and the dishonest, the men of the 'Good' sort will call to him to change direction.

 No-one gets to be as 'Good' as he might wish to be. But he can always be a 'Better' man than he was.


In regard to National Elections, it is time to get the disinfectant bottle out.
