St.Thomas Aquinas left us purity to comtemplate with our ears. We sit and sip our cups.
My thanks to Tony's ladies and gentlemen at Mass today
Pax.
(by request. The last two verses. Latin and English.)
TANTUM ergo Sacramentum
Veneremur cernui:
Et antiquum documentum
Novo cedat ritui:
Praestet fides supplementum
Sensuum defectui.
Genitori, Genitoque
Laus et iubilatio,
Salus, honor, virtus quoque
Sit et benedictio:
Procedenti ab utroque
Compar sit laudatio.
Amen.
DOWN in adoration falling,
Lo! the sacred Host we hail,
Lo! oe'r ancient forms departing
Newer rites of grace prevail;
Faith for all defects supplying,
Where the feeble senses fail.
To the everlasting Father,
And the Son Who reigns on high
With the Holy Spirit proceeding
Forth from each eternally,
Be salvation, honor blessing,
Might and endless majesty.
Amen.
Lovely, including the photograph :-)
ReplyDelete:) Tony, referred to, is a splendid gentleman who sings the Latin Mass along with a small group of amateur chorists in my church. They try to keep up with him :) He ( and the choir ladies and chaps) is first up to the rail for Communion so that he (they) can sing while the rest of us receive the Eucharest too. Today I knelt while they sang the Tantum Ergo. It is one of the most beautiful latin songs of gratitude.
DeleteThank you :-) It is nice to see the English translation and know what the words mean.
DeleteIt might surprise you to know that I have sung Ave Verum Corpus in Latin with a choir that I used to belong to. A beautiful and moving hymn to sing :-)
