Acting on Principle.

Actors play 'characters' in films and on stage. That's their job. But do they have 'Character'? Many of the customers here would say that most actors have very poor characters and the 'role modelling' they present, especially to the young, is detrimental rather than encouraging. But there are exceptions.

Hollywood, from many accounts, is a terrible place: more arse than class where Principles are arse about face. Tinsel-Town is more Sinful City, a filth-factory populated by wannabees who get paid phenomenal amounts just so long as they toe the lefty party line, party like Satanics, and create 'occasions of sin' like it was in short supply. But, as I said, there are exceptions.

It is no place for a 'Good' person. Show that Principles matter (sound, wholesome principles, that is) and an actor is likely to lose parts, contracts, colleagues and livlihood. But there are exceptions.

Two had some mention in the US Bar today. They can join Mr Jim Caveizel, who has featured here before.

Jim is a Catholic. This is not something that people without principle like to talk about. The two we shall talk about are Catholics too.  Stephanie Nolasco came by to tell of the first. She was the first of two ladies to speak up. Most who have seen his roles, know him as an archetypal 'bad guy'.
Neal McDonough recalls being reportedly fired from ABC's 'Scoundrels' for refusing sex scenes
He plays 'bad guys' very well !!

Neal McDonough said he was surprised when he was fired from the ABC series “Scoundrels” in 2010 for refusing to engage in sex scenes with his co-star Virginia Madsen.
“I was [surprised], and it was a horrible situation for me,” the actor recently told Closer Weekly. “After that, I couldn’t get a job because everybody thought I was this religious zealot.
“As a devout Catholic, I believe certain things,”
I am very religious. I put God and family first, and me second. That’s what I live by. It was hard for a few years.”
Deadline.com previously reported McDonough, now 52, was suddenly replaced with David James Elliott three days into the filming of the series and was poised to lose "as much as $1 million in paydays." The New York Daily News added the network’s decision to replace McDonough was a shocker because he is known for refusing sex scenes due to his religious beliefs.
At the time, ABC explained the move was simply a casting change.
McDonough has been married to model Ruvé Robertson since 2003 and the couple shares five children. McDonough told the magazine that he’s so dedicated to his wife that he still refuses to do love scenes with other actresses.
“I won’t kiss any other woman because these lips are meant for one woman,” he declared.
McDonough told Closer Weekly he had no regrets ditching love scenes with his on-screen wife Nicollette Sheridan in “Desperate Housewives.” McDonough appeared in that series from 2008 until 2009.
“When [creator] Marc Cherry signed me, I said, ‘I’m sure you know, but I won’t kiss anybody,’” recalled McDonough. “He was like, ‘But this is ‘Desperate Housewives!’ I said, ‘I know.’ He paused for about five seconds and said, ‘All right, I’m just going to have to write better.’ And we had a great time.”
McDonough added he met Robertson on the first night he was in England to shoot the TV mini-series “Band of Brothers” in 2001.
“It was St. Patrick’s Day, and we literally bumped into each other on the street, locked eyes and that was it,” he recalled. “The next morning, I called the woman I was dating at the time and said, ‘I’m sorry, it’s not going to work out with us anymore — I just met the woman I’m going to marry.'"
The pair has been together ever since.
“Almost 20 years, five kids and just one heck of an awesome life later, to have her as my partner in everything, I’m just the most blessed guy I know,” said McDonough.
“That’s why I go to church every day and say thank you to God for everything he’s given me.
And most importantly, thank you for giving me Ruvé, because, without her, I most certainly would not be talking with you right now.”
And these days McDonough is keeping busy. He’s currently starring in History Channel’s “Project Blue Book” as General James Harding, an Air Force general determined to keep UFO sightings top secret.
“As a devout Catholic, I believe certain things,” said McDonough. “Who are we as human beings on this planet to say that God might not have plans in other places? To think it’s just us is a bit myopic. If you believe in spirits, why can’t you believe there might be extraterrestrials? Who knows?”
McDonough said he has no regrets about sticking to his principles, even if it has meant losing work along the way. In fact, McDonough said he has only grown to appreciate his acting, which prompted his skills to improve.
“I took a shot on the chin, but I was not going to lose the fight,” he said. “And it worked. My career has been phenomenal ever since.”
And why does McDonough continue to act knowing he might face scrutiny for his no-nonsense rule on axing any sex scenes? “Because I have to,” he shared.
“That’s what I’m supposed to do,” said McDonough keeping busy as an actor. “God gave me this talent of being an actor, and I’m not going to waste it. That’s just who I am. I love working, and with five kids and a fantastic wife, I want to make sure I’m taking care of everyone.
The other 'good man' who often plays 'bad guys' or semi-bad / action thuggery, is the very tough Mark Wahlberg. It was Sasha Savitsky who spoke about him. I heard of him a while back (not being much of a movie-goer, m'self) when it was disclosed that before going on set on a movie shoot in the English Countryside, he would attend Mass every moring in a local village church. Being as he gets up far too early for a normal fellow, it did not suprise as much as astonish me.
Mark Wahlberg: 'There's nothing more important than faith and family'

Nothing is more important to Mark Walhberg than his family and faith.
The actor, who stars in the new film "Instant Family," spoke about the two driving forces in his life in a new interview.
"I've been very blessed and very fortunate. And it's because of the focus that I put on my faith and on my family that have allowed me to accomplish so many things," Walhberg told the Christian Post.
He added, "There's nothing more important than faith and family."
He says the schedule is exagerrated
The 47-year-old, who shares four children with his wife of 10 years Rhea Durham, also spoke about a recent trip to New York City where he opted to go to church on a Saturday night instead of a Broadway show.
"That's what it's all about. You know, for me, it's just the way I love to start my day, finish my day," he shared.
Wahlberg co-stars alongside Rose Byrne in the upcoming family film which tells the story about a couple who take in three foster children overnight.

"Just like this movie, this couple brings in three beautiful kids. And there is this kind of honeymoon period. And then there's this very difficult time when reality sets in. But ultimately, they fall madly in love with each other. And they want to fight for these kids," Wahlberg said of the movie
Wahlberg has been a committed Catholic for many years but doesn’t often talk about his faith.
Not suprising. But he doesn't have to mention it often. Someone who prays for half an hour at 2.45am gets known ! They work hard. They are Principled. They have a strong work ethic. But their Primary ethic is based on their Catholic Faith.

Good role models, once you get past the characters they play and find their true, personal Character.

They are Warriors.

Should either or both drop by the Tavern, I would let them have the run of the place and drinks on the House.

For you too.

  1. James agrees, but is sending signals in sign language....""As for principle, yes, it is time for all good men [and women] to stand up for right. We are coming into a time when the forces of evil have brainwashed legions and thinkers and those of principle are yto be suppressed.""

Our Bouncer is a gentleman of muscle and guile. His patience has limits. He will check you at the door.

The Tavern gets rowdy visitors from time to time. Some are brain dead and some soul dead. They attack customers and the bar staff and piss on the carpets. Those people will not be allowed in anymore. So... Be Nice..
