A Story of a Love

Trists happen, even in the Tavern. In springtime, as it is now, especially in the Tavern. The gardens are blooming and young folk gather with no idea of the troubles they are going to get into. Love is in the air. Tristesse may follow.

So it was that I left the towel and the main bar in the capable hands of a level headed barmaid, and headed out to the patio for a pipe. There I caught the sounds of a guitar and sort of Spanish melodies. It was a lady due to sing this evening, some ditties from furrin climes.

Now, I cannot recall the last time I had a Spanishy troupe to play for us. There were some Flamenco dancers a while back. We even had some Tango recently. (Not that I dance of course). But this time we had a Mexican. I had not heard of the lady until quite recently.

Guadalupe Pineda came to be known as one of her native Mexico's grassroots musical icons. Performing music from all over the Spanish-speaking world for audiences large and small, Pineda built a reputation and fan base, concert by concert, over the course of a career that spanned decades.

Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Pineda early on relocated to Mexico City, where she studied sociology and political science before embarking on her career as a vocalist.

A much better idea than sociology and politics !

She began singing in the local coffee shops and small venues, building her repertoire and reputation while she supported herself selling real estate and teaching guitar lessons.

Pineda (as she is called) collaborated with a number of local groups, one of them being Sanampay, with whom she recorded three records and got her first chance to tour internationally. In 1980 Pineda recorded an album with Carlos "Caíto" Diaz, launching her career as a solo performer.

Throughout the early '80s Pineda performed anywhere she was invited, including venues like prisons, mental hospitals offices, and city squares. The less-than-glamorous performance career honed her skills and gained support punctuated by the 1984 release of the song "Yolanda." Her breakthrough hit, also known as "Te Amo," performed as a duet with Pablo Milanés, sold better than a million and a half copies, announcing Pineda as an international star.

Not that I had heard of her, nor most of my anglophile customers. We can get a tad parochial if we are not careful and do not broaden our minds.

In the years to follow, Pineda would add many successful records to her discography, soon including more than 25 titles, several achieving gold and platinum status. She has appeared before audiences all over Latin America and Europe, performing folk and pop repertoire from all over Latin America.

She seems to be popular with film-makers who 'illustrate' her work, especially the one I was hearing.

I shall show a few below. I started a count but gave up after a handful and a half.  What I was hearing was her "Historia De Un Amor" - the story of 'lost love'. But as I said before, it has to start somewhere and the Tavern orchards are as good a place as any.
Call me an old romantic but I think that was charming: warm, humourous, mischeivious even. A good start for a young couple. Even the very young girl and boy.

But the song is actually about lost love ! It brought to my mind a little girl, Mary Moriarty, who was six when I was just five. I was in love for a few days - my first time - and have never forgotten her.

The song tells of a man's suffering after his love has disappeared. I can understand that, having lost several in m'time.

"Historia de un Amor" (Spanish for "a love story") is a song about a man's old love written by Panamanian songwriter Carlos Eleta Almarán. It was written after the death of his brother's wife. It is also part of the soundtrack of a 1956 Mexican film of the same name starring Libertad Lamarque.

The words? For those many who do not speak Spanish.

You're by my side no more, my love and in my soul all I've left is loneliness and if I can't see you anymore why did God make me love you just to make me suffer more?
You were always my reason to exist; to worship you was my religion. In your kisses I could find the warmth you gave to me; the love and passion
This is a love story there's no other that's the same and it made me understand all that is good, all that is bad. It brought light into my life just to extinguish said light later Alas!
What a dark life without your love I won't survive: You're by my side no more, my love and in my soul all I've left is loneliness: and if I can't see you anymore why did God make me love you just to make me suffer more?
Tristesse indeed !

The song was first recorded as a tango by Héctor Varela and his orchestra along with singer Rodolfo Lesica.

This isn't it, but similar....

This song has been sung or played by many artists: Dalida, Irvys Juarez, Mietta, Guadalupe Pineda, Eydie Gormé & Trio Los Panchos, Los Paraguayos, Julio Jaramillo, Nicola Di Bari, Abbe Lane, Julio Iglesias, Angélica María, Nana Mouskouri, George Dalaras, Hrysoula Stefanaki, Perez Prado, Pilita Corrales, Laura Fygi, Iva Zanicchi, Mietta, Dizzy Reece, Pedro Infante, Ana Gabriel, Luis Miguel, Luz Casal, Yasar, Cesaria Evora, Lili Boniche, Los Tres Ases, Dany Brillant, Eartha Kitt, Krystyna Janda, Stanisława Celińska, Sargis Maghakyan Sr., Zaz (singer), Il Volo, Felipe Pirela, Miri Mesika, Diego El Cigala, Margarita Suvorova and Il Divo among others.

Yes, I know. I haven't heard of any of them either. Well, OK, Four I have heard of. Which just goes to show !

The song was featured several times in the Colombian telenovela "La Hija del Mariachi", performed by Carolina Ramirez. In the film "Visage" by Tsai Ming-liang, Lebanese singer Mohammed Jamal recorded the song in the 1980s in Arabic under the title "You and Dancing And me". A Turkish cover called "Bütün Dualarım Seninle" ("All My Prayers with You") was performed by Berkant in 1972.

It has also been covered in Chinese, with the lyrics written by Chen Die-Yi 陳蝶衣 (Oct 17, 1907 in Wujin, Jiangsu to Oct 14, 2007 in Hong Kong). The song title in Chinese is 我的心裡没有他 (literally: Inside my heart, there is no him/her).

Il Divo, along with Colombian producer Julio Reyes Copello, recorded the song for the album Amor & Pasión from Il Divo (2015).

So there ! Now you know.

I shall leave you with several other video-film 'illustrations', perhaps the most disturbing 'lost love' being that between Mr and Mrs Smith, the assassins tasked with whacking each other.

And this one. The Nun's story. Torn between the irresistible lure of romance and the life she once knew, the song is used to tell the story of a nun as she navigates love, loss, betrayal, adventure, and ultimately, faith!

Hey, even the Good have trials, trists and tristesse.

I hazard that Guadalupe's song and arrangement has earned her a very comfortable life. Now't to be sad about really.

Have a drink.

Australia's Drought Wallet is Dry

If it ain't massive floods, its prolonged droughts. Oz has always had extremes and is likely to continue while Political parties and politicians prefer to party.  Sure as hens have teeth, our mob in Canberra and the States' Gummunts have as little interest in solving, or even going some way to solve the problem of the effects of our climate and weather, nor the immediate problems faced by the affected people. Particularly our farmers.

Tasmania is a 'maritime-temperate' climate which gets hot weather periodically, when the north winds bring heat from the desert inland of the big island: we go to the beach. We also get periodic dry spells. But in the main we do not suffer from the devastations  - apart from bushfires: we do have bushfires - that NSW or QLD get visited upon them. They have a 'Continental- arid' climate

Our Feds enjoy taking vast sums of money from Taxpayers and businesses which they use to gain smarty points with furrin dictators and despots, handing out largesse and borrowed monies, but they are reluctant to invest in infrastructure at home, nor in alleviating distress. Those countries that benefit never, never ever send aid to us.

General Maddox was in the bar seeking help. ( I don't know if he is a real General. He didn't have his fingernails painted). Tasmania has sent truckloads of hay across the Bass Strait and hauled them a thousand miles north in the past few months. Tassie folk have donated to charities too. More has been donated from people's pockets than the Government has given out.

Indeed, some of the money has been snagged from charity by the government. It has been siphoned off to pay the taxes of dispossessed farmers. Scandalous.
Drought Relief Donations Missing
The media finally listened to the pleas for help from our rural areas after years of drought. Australians coughed up the cash. But what happened to it?
Our rural brothers and sisters have been complaining about the drought conditions for over a decade. Conditions have worsened and finally the mainstream media decided to bring it to the forefront and milk it for all it’s worth. The masses listened as for weeks we were shown the plight of the farmers and the abhorrent conditions they’re forced to deal with by countless breakfast TV shows etc.

Australians opened up their wallets and money poured into the coffers of a bunch of charities some of whom were set up specifically for drought relief. More the $50 million dollars was donated. A massive sum that shows regular Aussies do feel for our farmers and want to help.
It’s been over a month now since the drought has been mentioned on the 6 o’clock news and it has officially dropped off the daily news cycle.

Well, the tugging of our heart strings & the emotionally charged side of the plight to be exact. Now we’re just starting to see a new issue emerge.
It turns out that at least $20 million of the $50 million that was donated can’t be found or has been misused.
What a shock!
For the uninitiated, many large charities have a bad track record of giving and using very little of donated funds for their advertised cause. Most of the money goes to administrations costs. Many charities have been exposed as outright frauds simply stealing the money gullibly donated by the public.
Several charities in charge of distributing the $50 million to Australian farmers are now under investigation and may face fraud charges.
It’s easy to donate to these causes when you’re shown the hardships of those involved. We make a call or visit a website and hand over our credit card details. It’s done and we get a little release of endorphins and feel good about helping. But it seems there’s actually more effort involved and needed in the giving side of things.
I read a comment from a person who said he was a farmer in western Queensland. We’ll have to take it on face value but what he said rang so true. Simply donating money to the drought appeal while a good notion isn’t actually going to make a big difference. He said if you really cared about their plight and wanted to make a difference this is what more Australians MUST do…
I have to say, it is a Big Ask !
Get in your car, drive about 8 hours into the rural parts of Queensland and New South Wales. Stop in small towns along the way for a bite to eat and fill up the petrol tank. When you’ve reached a farming town, stay at the local hotel/Inn, buy a meal, go shopping, get a hair cut, get the car serviced, buy some locally made souvenirs and buy a few boxes of locally grown produce.
No-one gives 'aid' to Oz.
Oz gives BILLIONS to others.
Then buy a load of groceries and drive to one of the farmers properties whom you met at the local pub.
Give them the groceries and perhaps some spare cash.
What he’s saying is by taking a weekend trip to the country and making a mini holiday out of it you’re not simply donating to a random charity that perhaps might only donate a fraction of that money. You’re helping a whole swag of people by pumping money into their local community.
That’s true philanthropy.
We should be organising bus loads of tourists to these remote and rural towns. We may not be bringing the rain but it will be more helpful than a $20 donation to the morning breakfast show clowns.

It is the same whenever a sudden or even a 'regular' hardship happens in the world. Oz gives aid, in cash and manpower. If we have something happen the best we can expect - and be most grateful for - is bushfire troops coming from NZ and the USA. Just as ours go to help them in such emergency. But do we get Indonesians? Indians? Arabs? Africans?

We do not hold our breath.

And closer to home. Those un-Australian politicians some dull tools  keep electing, with their promises to make life better for 'ordinary' people, what do they do? Nothing.  Oh, naughty Tavern Keeper. Of course they do something. They round up the media for a jaunt into the affected areas so they can have a photo-shoot. That's when they can drag themselves away from jaunts to wineries or from overseas holidays to shake the grasping hand of some foreign bugger.... er ... beggar.

Build dams and catchments to store some of the rain?  It could be used when droughts come. Good grief no. The Greenies would scream blue murder.

So we continue to dig deep, with increasing sighs at the knowledge that some will be syphoned off. We continue to suffer without kicking a political arse or two.

And those who provide food for our tables, go without.

Weep and drink up.

Get angry. Or if you are of Anglo stock, get a little annoyed.

Pax.

Hairy Old Tug-Boat Captain

The tide is turning. The several decades of advertisments depicting stupid men, breadwinners all, with overpowering, competent superwives and children who are more mature than dad, have disgraced our families just to sell products. It has been worse than using scantily clad young women using their flesh to do the same. But now a new chapter may be opening, with a depiction of Good Men.

Two good men in fact.

The Gillette company has an advert, which I am glad to see has won awards, and Doug Mainwairing showed it to us in the US Bar today. I was really pleased. It scored well on several fronts with the customers.

It uses respect and Love, rather than sex.
Gillette shaving commercial shows beautiful bond between father and son
A beautifully produced commercial offered by Gillette portrays the bond between an elderly father and his son, offering a sharp contrast to the loud forces promoting euthanasia.
“In the past 100 years, over 4,000 razors have been designed to shave yourself. There have been 0 designed with the intent to shave someone else. Until now,” explains the razor blade manufacturer, introducing “the first razor designed for assisted shaving.”
While Gillette’s intent is to identify a new market in which to expand its sales, the commercial has a value that extends far beyond increased market share and profits.
The very moving commercial shows a middle-aged son getting his elderly dad up in the morning and the painstaking, loving daily grooming routine which follows.
“My Dad had a stroke, and now he can’t get around and he needs me to help him out,” explains son Kristian Rex. “I’d do anything, anything for him.”
What a name !! Follower of Christ, King !
“There’s a definite role reversal that happens,” he continues. “I have to wake him up in the morning, groom him, shower and shave him.”

The younger Rex adds that while confronting that reversal is scary, “it’s actually an honor to do that for your father, because he did it for me when I was a kid. It’s very humbling to take him and change his clothes and give him a shower.
It’s the kind of thing that you do out of love.”
“I’m one of the lucky ones,” notes Rex.  “A lot of my friends my age do not have their dads.”
“He looks up at me after I’ve poured love on him for the whole day and he says,
‘I don’t know what I did to deserve you,’”
Rex says, choking back tears. “And I say, ‘Dad, I got you. I got you, dad.’”
The ad has garnered multiple industry awards at the Cannes Lion Festival, in the categories of Health and Wellness, Promo and Activation, and Non-Fiction Entertainment.
A spontaneous round of applause erupted, drawing customers from other bars.

OK. It is to sell razors. And a new 'overarm' method. Gillette is an old' brand itself and was not beyond using some underhand - or is that underarm - tactics to increase market share. The tale is told of the shaving blade salesman in the 1940's, keen to win the award for most sales in a 'territory', that hit on the ploy to get women to buy razors and blades by claiming that they would be sexier without underarm hair.  It worked. Sales went up substantially and now we have seen even lower hair targetted.

Kristian's dad was a young man of that era but I doubt his work put him amongst clean-shaven young women, as he plied his very hard work on the rivers towing and pushing big ships with his tug.

It was hard work and before the days of the Voith Schneider propulsion system.

What ? You have never heard of it?

It is a cyclorotor, cycloidal rotor, cycloidal propeller or cyclogiro: a fluid propulsion device that converts shaft power into the acceleration of a fluid using a rotating axis perpendicular to the direction of fluid motion.

It uses several blades with a spanwise axis parallel to the axis of rotation and perpendicular to the direction of fluid motion. These blades are cyclically pitched twice per revolution to produce force (thrust or lift) in any direction normal to the axis of rotation.

Cyclorotors are used for propulsion, lift, and control on air and water vehicles. An aircraft using cyclorotors as the primary source of lift, propulsion, and control is known as a cyclogyro. The patented application, used on the ships with particular actuation mechanisms both mechanics or hydraulics is named from the name of the German company that produces them: Voith–Schneider cycloidal propellers.

Well here is a little about it for you.

Men. Working hard. Making a world fit to live in for superwives and kids who demean them daily.

Respect your father.

Love your father.

Both of them.

You have a Father above too, who provides the Ale.

So drink up and be thankful.

Pax

And on the Third Day.....

(Video update at the end)
.....The Judges rose to take tea and consider their verdict.  The High Court of Oz, in Canberra, had listened to the arguements, and no doubt  any slight thought of Pontius Pilate did not cross their minds. We have had weeks of America's Supreme Court appointment bizzo and few anywhere, even here in Oz, give much thought to our own Legal Pinnacle.

My friends Kathy Clubb and Graham Preston - I am honoured to have stood with them on street corners - had taken their case against 'Safe Zones' to the highest Court in the land after years of harassment and villification against them by mobs of the nastiest people, aided and abetted by the Police and Governments. It had been a hard week for them both.

Ranged infront of their Honours were ranks of lawyers. 31 of them for the opposition and 5 pro-bono warriors for my two friends. The 31 lawyers for the Governments were all paid handsomely by the taxpayer.

Graham sat with a glass of the finest and reported:

Dear Friends,
Now we wait – for the High Court to hand down their decision about the constitutionality of the abortion clinic “bubble zone” laws.

There is no set time frame so it could be months before we hear anything but it is possible that it could be soon. After three long days of sitting through, for this non-lawyer, what seemed to be rather arcane legal argument I cannot say that I am filled with confidence that we will win.

A number of the seven judges (four men and three women) seemed to show their hand rather too clearly that they are not friendly to our position but I may be wrong and time will tell. Thank-you for praying and please continue to pray for the judges as they deliberate.

My friend Jim and I drove there and back without incident and we were very appreciative of a family who gave us generous hospitality at short notice. The National Gallery of Art is next to the High Court and during one lunch-break I took the opportunity to visit there. Some say that art is a good indicator of the state of health of a culture – if so, we are, in my view, in big trouble as there was some pretty weird “art” there!
Below is the official statement about the court case written on Kathy’s and my behalf by our lawyers.
Joint statement from Kathleen Clubb and Graham Preston
Kathy Clubb and Graham Preston, appellants in this week’s challenge to the exclusion zone laws in Victoria and Tasmania have issued the following joint statement.

"We feel honoured to have been able to argue for the freedom of political communication in our nation’s highest court.
This truly has been a David and Goliath battle.
We have been opposed by the governments of Victoria, Tasmania, the Commonwealth and all other states and the Northern Territory.  We have also been opposed by the Castan Human Rights Law Centre and Big Abortion, namely the so-called Fertility Control Clinic.

While we are passionately concerned about the issue of abortion, we realise that this case has far greater implications for many fundamental Australian freedoms, including freedom of speech and political communication.
The so-called exclusion zone legislation affects all Australians.  By limiting political communication, the rights of every Australian is affected.
These laws needed to be challenged in the High Court.
We feel privileged to have had our cases heard by the High Court and to have represented the rights of the littlest Australians, the unborn, in their silent cry for life.
We look forward to the decision of the High Court and wish to thank all who have supported us throughout this case."
Graham continued.

Since getting back there has been another pro-life rally outside Parliament House on Saturday. Despite the wet weather it was well attended.

Then yesterday, I and two of my daughters decided at short notice to bring a pro-life presence to a lunch-time pro-abortion march and rally in the city. Our presence made quite an impact. The pro-abortionists certainly did not want anyone to see what they themselves were advocating for though because as soon as I held up a large picture of the broken bodies of aborted babies, captioned “This is pro-choice!”, they hypocritically tried to cover it up!

One woman, after poking me with her umbrella came up behind me and grabbed the sign and ran off with it. I thought that was the last I would see of it but to my surprise the police went after her and I got it back!
The Bill to legalise abortion in Queensland is due to be debated in Parliament tomorrow.
Thank-you again for your support and prayers.
While thousands have been praying, be assured that dark, malevolent forces have also been at work.  It is not as though killing babies is a new and dark turn.

Molech… was an Ammonite god who required propitiatory child sacrifice.

A couple sacrificed their firstborn by burning the child on a metal idol of Molech, believing that Molech would ensure financial prosperity for the family and future children. The Israelites were strictly forbidden to practice this form of worship… as it is in stark contradiction to the sanctity of life espoused throughout the Bible.

Today’s Molech is the abortion industry, sacrificing babies for the idol of financial greed, veiled in the hopes of the development of new cures through biomedical research.

Since the infamous Roe vs Wade decision in 1973 (quickly follwed in Oz and all over the western world) there have been well over 60 million abortions performed in the United States alone. (4,500,000 in Oz) But it’s also big business with Planned Parenthood, in particular, being exposed for trading in body parts.

We don't know what goes on in the fetid offices of the Oz baby-murderers. Even my request for a 'Question' to be asked in Parliament about Health Authority checks on abortuaries in Hobart went unasked and un-reported. No-one as yet has had the gumtion, financial and technical resources and personal skills to secretly expose what goes on here. It will be very similar.

Watching the undercover video, one is immediately overwhelmed with the cavalier attitude of Mrs Nucatola, casually eating her meal while she describes the grotesque manner in which organs and body parts are harvested, illustrates the supply and demand economics of the business, and describes how Planned Parenthood knowingly is skirting if not breaking the law.

The modern day Molech should be well pleased – in addition to the untold millions received in selling aborted baby organs and body parts, Planned Parenthood receives over $500 million from US tax payers from government grants and reimbursements (Planned Parenthood annual report).

With that in mind, Planned Parenthood (and similar) is not that different from the worship of Molech after all.

So, we wait.

Will we have a Christmas Present or one more year of disappointment and baby-carnage.

Pray.

Pray and pray some more.

Hold the line. With my friend Kathy.

And drink deep.

Pax

Climate Heretics, Great and Small

Remember back when the Pope had Galileo taken before the Inquisition?  You probably weren't there but have heard the tales. Galileo was a scientist and of course those  Catholic religious oppressors of the Truth locked him up.  Banned his books. Tortured his toes. Burned him at the stake. Actually, they didn't.  Far from it. But the whole affair pushed scientists forward as the new religion and has given a host of excuses for the anti-Catholic brigade ever since. But more about him later.

Today we have scientists ruling the roost and dictating what is true and what isn't. We 'trust' them, because... well... they have a 'method' innit? And they speak a strange argot and write runes that only the illuminated understand, innit? They is Modern and Enlightened. Not like Popes and Bishops who are just after your money.

We wish !

Truth is, 'scientist' is a blanket term for some quite clever and useful chaps who 'break new ground', some modest plodders who are about as insightful as a glo-worm, and many, many con-men who take your money in shiploads, far more than any Pope did way back or megachurch bullshitter does now. And the most public and successful? Climate wallahs. Probably.

Phenominal amounts of taxpayers' monies are not only funnelled to 'climate scientists' but as much again to political wallahs (lefty ones, of course), to NGOs (lefty again), to high-tech companies, to advertising agencies, and to almost anyone seeking a place for their nose in the trough who can work the phrase into a grant application. More lefties. Climate science IS a lefty religion and must not be critiqued or questioned.

Tim Blair downed a glass and told the crowd...
Outside of standard religious texts, there is no place on Earth more clogged with fantasy, fable and folklore than a climate activist’s mind. You name it and the climate crowd are into it, from starving polar bears and deadly coal to sinking Pacific Islands and friendly wind turbines... etc, etc.

Perhaps though, the tide is turning. President Trump has rubbished the idea and has pulled out of the 'Paris Agreement'. Now the new PM of Oz  has dared to speak some sense, while oddly still supporting that agreement.

Asked if Australia would be held to the target to reduce emissions by 26% to 28% from 2005 levels, Morrison said: “No, we won’t … we’re not held to any of them at all. Nor are we bound to go and tip money into that big climate fund. We’re not going to do that either. I’m not going to spend money on global climate conferences and all that nonsense.”

I am not holding my breath on that. No turning blue here. Sense has a struggle to get heard these days.
It is Heresy to even question 'Climate science'. The most prominent heretic is the aforementioned President Trump who is a multidextrous heretic against almost everything the 'conventional lefty wisdom' dictates.

But the young and perhaps niaive have a place. One such was introduced in the bar by Joanne Nova, no stranger here. She is a such a trojan, holding back the hordes. Her friend is Dr John McLean, who, as a PhD student decided to take a close look at 'The Data'

Shock, horror. Burn him !!

What he found is staggering. Not that you are going to hear much of it.
#DataGate! First ever audit of global temperature data finds freezing tropical islands, boiling towns, boats on land

The fate of the planet is at stake, but the key temperature data set used by climate models contains more than 70 different sorts of problems.  Trillions of dollars have been spent because of predictions based on this data – yet

even the most baby-basic quality control checks have not been done.
The HadCRUT4 dataset is a joint production of the UK Met Office’s Hadley Centre and the Climatic Research Unit of the University of East Anglia.
And we all know (or should) about the University of East Anglia's absolutely appalling and corrupt 'scientists' who have systematically destroyed data and the reputations of other scientists.
HadCRUT4 is a global temperature dataset, providing gridded temperature anomalies across the world as well as averages for the hemispheres and the globe as a whole. CRUTEM4 and HadSST3 are the land and ocean components.

The CRU data covers 10,295 stations, but 2693 – more than a quarter – don’t meet the criteria for inclusion described in Jones et al 2012, which is considered to the best description of what should and shouldn’t be included.

It is impossible to know exactly which sites are included in the final temperature analysis, and whether a site’s records have been adjusted. (If only we could do our tax returns like this?)

The sub-parts of the datasets contradict each other. The land set and the sea set should combine up to be the global set, but they don’t always match. Which one is right?

“It seems like neither organization properly checked the land or sea temperature data before using it in the HadCRUT4 dataset. If it had been checked then the CRU might have queried the more obvious errors in data supplied by different countries.  The Hadley Centre might also have found some of the inconsistencies in the sea surface temperature data, along with errors that it created itself when it copied data from the hand-written logs of some Royal Navy ships.”  – John McLean

Thanks to Dr John McLean, we see how The IPCC demands for cash rests on freak data, empty fields, Fahrenheit temps recorded as Celsius, mistakes in longitude and latitude, brutal adjustments and even spelling errors.

Why. Why. Why wasn’t this done years ago?

So much for that facade. How can people who care about the climate be so sloppy and amateur with the data?

In probably the worst systematic error, the past is rewritten in an attempt to correct for site moves. While some corrections are necessary, these adjustments are brutally sweeping.
Thermometers do need to move, but corrections don’t have to treat old sites as if they were always surrounded by concrete and bricks.

New original sites are usually placed in good open sites. As the site “ages” buildings and roads appear nearby, and sometimes air conditioners, all artificially warming the site. So a replacement thermometer is opened in an open location nearby. Usually each separate national meteorology centre compares both sites for a while and figures out the temperature difference between them. Then they adjust the readings from the old locations down to match the new ones.

The problem is that the algorithms also slice right back through the decades cooling all the older original readings – even readings that were probably taken when the site was just a paddock.

In this way the historic past is rewritten to be colder than it really was, making recent warming look faster than it really was.
Thousands of men and women trudged through snow, rain and mud to take temperatures that a computer “corrected” a century later.

The Chiefs of Met offices get paid around 180,000 a year. UK Pounds, that is.  That's around $325,000 AuD. To sit on their arses and fail miserably to ensure such screw up don't happen. But of course its just taxpayer's money and it 'fits' with the 'conventioanl lefty wisdom'.

We’ve seen the effect of site moves in Australia in Canberra, Bourke, Melbourne and  Sydney. After being hammered in the Australian press (thanks to Graham Lloyd), the BOM finally named a “site move” as the major reason that a cooling trend had been adjusted to a warming one. In Australia adjustments to data increase the trend by as much as 40%.

In theory, a thermometer in a paddock in 1860 should be comparable to a thermometer in a paddock in 1980. But the experts deem the older one must be reading too high because someone may have built a concrete tarmac next to it forty or eighty years later.

This systematic error, just by itself, creates a warming trend from nothing, step-change by step-change.

Worse, the adjustments are cumulative. The oldest data may be reduced with every step correction for site moves. Ken Stewart found some adjustments to old historic data in Australia wipe as much as 2C off the earliest temperatures. We’ve only had “theoretically” 0.9C of warming this century.

When a thermometer is relocated to a new site, the adjustment assumes that the old site was always built up and “heated” by concrete and buildings. In reality, the artificial warming probably crept in slowly. By correcting for buildings that likely didn’t exist in 1880, old records are artificially cooled. Adjustments for a few site changes can create a whole century of artificial warming trends.

While each national bureau supplies the “preadjusted” data. The Hadley Centre is accepting them. Does it check? Does it care?
The Hadley Centre for Climate Change — named in honour of George Hadley — is one of the United Kingdom's leading centres for the study of scientific issues associated with climate change. It is part of, and based at the headquarters of the Met Office in Exeter.  Taxpayer funded of course.
McLean’s report could scarcely have come at a more embarrassing time for the IPCC. On Monday, it will release its 2018 Summary for Policy Makers claiming that the global warming crisis is more urgent than ever. But what McLean’s audit strongly suggests is that these claims are based on data that simply cannot be trusted.
Well, here we are on Monday, and 'our' ABC had a lengthy piece on the News which was simple scare and gloom propaganda.  Bollocks science. No mention of this news.
For two years the entire Southern Hemisphere temperature was estimated from one sole land-based site in Indonesia and some ship data. We didn’t get 50% global coverage until 1906. We didn’t consistently get 50% Southern Hemisphere coverage until about 1950.

McLean’s findings show there almost no quality control on this crucial data.

The Hadley Met Centre team have not even analyzed this data with a tool as serious as a spell checker.

Countries include “Venezuala”,” Hawaai”, and the “Republic of K” (also known as South Korea). One country is “Unknown” while other countries are not even countries – like “Alaska”.

The real fault of the modern day institutes is not so much the lack of historic data, but for the way they “sell” the trends and records as if they are highly certain and meaningful.
And, of course, the punishment for Heresy, which is to be burned at the stake in Whitehall.
The Hadley data is one of the most cited, most important databases for climate modeling, and thus for policies involving billions of dollars.

McLean found freakishly improbable data, and systematic adjustment errors , large gaps where there is no data, location errors,

Fahrenheit temperatures reported as Celsius,

and spelling errors.

Almost no quality control checks have been done: outliers that are obvious mistakes have not been corrected – one town in Columbia spent three months in 1978 at an average daily temperature of over 80 degrees C.

One town in Romania stepped out from summer in 1953 straight into a month of Spring at minus 46°C.

These are supposedly “average” temperatures for a full month at a time.

St Kitts, a Caribbean island, was recorded at 0°C for a whole month, and twice!

Temperatures for the entire Southern Hemisphere in 1850 and for the next three years are calculated from just one site in Indonesia and some random ships.

Sea surface temperatures represent 70% of the Earth’s surface, but some measurements come from ships which are logged at locations 100km inland. Others are in harbors which are hardly representative of the open ocean.

Gory details of the worst outliers

For April, June and July of 1978 Apto Uto (Colombia, ID:800890)  had an average monthly temperature of  81.5°C, 83.4°C and 83.4°C respectively.

The monthly mean temperature in September 1953 at Paltinis, Romania is reported as -46.4 °C (in other years the September average was about 11.5°C).

At Golden Rock Airport, on the island of St Kitts in the Caribbean, mean monthly temperatures for December in 1981 and 1984 are reported as 0.0°C. But from 1971 to 1990 the average in all the other years was 26.0°
So, a pint for the persistent and meticulous lad and a fine lady's bevvie for Joanne.

Am I shocked? Not a bit. What can we expect from a branch of science that cannot predict weather three days hence yet badgers and cajoles governments into stealing hard-working peoples' tax monies with threats of weather in 50 years time. Can we be shocked that this information by Jo and from Dr McLean is not front-page news? No again.

There is too much money flowing into too many crooked pockets: trillions which could be doing far more good in the world.

Frankly there should be many, many people charged with 'heresy'. Heresy against Truth. They deserve the Stake.

And I said (above) 'probably', when looking at climate wallahs being the most egregious takers of monies. Quieter but simply superb money launderers are the Physicist Priesthood. Physicists are far quieter and possibly more successful in keeping the money to themselves in their underground, circular temples where they whizz insubstantial entities around looking for God.

And what really did happen to the heretic Galileo?

I take this for you from Wiki. You take it as you may.

Although Galileo seriously considered the priesthood as a young man, at his father's urging he instead enrolled in 1580 at the University of Pisa for a medical degree. However, after accidentally attending a lecture on geometry, he talked his reluctant father into letting him study mathematics and natural philosophy instead of medicine.

In the whole world prior to Galileo's conflict with the Church, the majority of educated people subscribed either to the Aristotelian geocentric view that the earth was the center of the universe and that all heavenly bodies revolved around the Earth, or the Tychonic system that blended geocentrism with heliocentrism. Nevertheless, following the death of Copernicus and before Galileo, heliocentrism was relatively uncontroversial; Copernicus's work was used by Pope Gregory XIII to reform the calendar in 1582.

Galileo defended heliocentrism based on his astronomical observations of 1609 (Sidereus Nuncius 1610). In December 1613, the Grand Duchess Christina of Florence confronted one of Galileo's friends and followers, Benedetto Castelli, with biblical objections to the motion of the earth. According to Maurice Finocchiaro, this was done in a friendly and gracious manner, out of curiosity. Prompted by this incident, Galileo wrote a letter to Castelli in which he argued that heliocentrism was actually not contrary to biblical texts, and that the bible was an authority on faith and morals, not on science. This letter was not published, but circulated widely.

The essay also included four theological arguments, but Ingoli suggested Galileo focus on the physical and mathematical arguments, and he did not mention Galileo's biblical ideas. In February 1616, an Inquisitorial commission declared heliocentrism to be "foolish and absurd in philosophy, and formally heretical since it explicitly contradicts in many places the sense of Holy Scripture."

The Inquisition found that the idea of the Earth's movement "receives the same judgement in philosophy and... in regard to theological truth it is at least erroneous in faith". (The original document from the Inquisitorial commission was made widely available in 2014.)

Pope Paul V instructed Cardinal Bellarmine to deliver this finding to Galileo, and to order him to abandon the opinion that heliocentrism was physically true. On 26 February, Galileo was called to Bellarmine's residence and ordered:

... to abandon completely... the opinion that the sun stands still at the center of the world and the earth moves, and henceforth not to hold, teach, or defend it in any way whatever, either orally or in writing.

The decree of the Congregation of the Index banned Copernicus's De Revolutionibus and other heliocentric works until correction. Bellarmine's instructions did not prohibit Galileo from discussing heliocentrism as a mathematical and philosophic idea, so long as he did not advocate for its physical truth.

For the next decade, Galileo stayed well away from the controversy. He revived his project of writing a book on the subject, encouraged by the election of Cardinal Maffeo Barberini as Pope Urban VIII in 1623. Barberini was a friend and admirer of Galileo, and had opposed the condemnation of Galileo in 1616. Galileo's resulting book, Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems, was published in 1632, with formal authorization from the Inquisition and papal permission.

Earlier, Pope Urban VIII had personally asked Galileo to give arguments for and against heliocentrism in the book, and to be careful not to advocate heliocentrism. He made another request, that his own views on the matter be included in Galileo's book. Only the latter of those requests was fulfilled by Galileo.

Later, after more controversy over the matter, from many quarters, he was sentenced to formal imprisonment at the pleasure of the Inquisition. On the following day, this was commuted to house arrest, which he remained under for the rest of his life.

His house arrest was in Vatican property where he enjoyed almost palatial quarters, a laboratory, a study and great encouragement to study and write. He was allowed to return to his villa at Arcetri near Florence in 1634, where he spent part of his life under house arrest. Galileo was ordered to read the seven penitential psalms once a week for the next three years. However, his daughter Maria Celeste relieved him of the burden after securing ecclesiastical permission to take it upon herself.

It was while Galileo was under house arrest that he dedicated his time to one of his finest works, Two New Sciences. Here he summarised work he had done some forty years earlier, on the two sciences now called kinematics and strength of materials, published in Holland to avoid the censor. This book has received high praise from Albert Einstein. As a result of this work, Galileo is often called the "father of modern physics".

He went completely blind in 1638 and was suffering from a painful hernia and insomnia, so he was permitted to travel to Florence for medical advice.

Galileo continued to receive visitors until 1642, when, after suffering fever and heart palpitations, he died on 8 January 1642, aged 77.

No Prisons. No torture. No burning at the stake.
'Science' has all the authority that the Church had in Galileo's time. But far greater clout. I doubt young McLean will get 'house arrest'. There is little chance of him getting fully equiped papal apartments or even a $325,000 Top Job courtesy of the taxpayer.  He has incurred the wrath of the IPCC.

Expect to see him sometime soon as a foreman on a building site. If he works hard.

Meanwhile drink to his continuing good heath.
