Christmas Music: The Singer and the Song

My friend James, this time of the year, drops off his 'play-list' for Christmas.  He leaves it behind the bar for me to ponder and he plays one every day until Christmas over at his place. You can take a look and have a listen here >>>>

It gives me time to ponder. And ponder I do.  Down in the Crypt. I have my own favourites and he even asks for them, sometimes being gracious enough to add one or two of mine to his. I am not the only one so favoured of course.

Most people have lost sight of Christmas. What it is really all about: the Perfect human - God made flesh -  born to a virtually perfect mother, in order to bring Love and Saving Grace to we very imperfect humans. And some of those make fine Christmas music despite their imperfections.

I am reminded of Anaclito and the Priest. The dying bandit lied to the dying priest because he respected the 'Singer, not the Song'.  That was even the name of the film. There are many who do not even listen to the song, let alone respect the singer.

Christ came to Love and Save both.

And so those who sing His praises and welcome Him on His birthday, may be flawed human beings, and like all of us, in need of the gifts He brings while singing of Three Kings who bring gifts to Him. Children, perhaps no less so, but at least they have not yet clocked up so many errors as you and me.

I make a habit of praying each day. I do not say this to boast or seem holier than my customers. I am in greater need than most. Old men have done much and mostly imperfectly. But I state what I believe.

OK, Not all that 'Christmassy', so let us move on. Many will know the song and remember the singer.

Yes, He came for her too. She started out such a nice girl, singing in church, but Charlotte was dragged down by the entertainment industry's vipers. There is hope for her yet, as for all of us. Perhaps she can recall the Singer some day. Even rude, nasty girls started out near perfect. I pray she recovers fidelity.

Being an old Latin man (although I claim little or no facility for even that old language) I do recall getting all the words of this right when as a lad I had a voice for it. But let us hear a Master at it.

It ain't over even when the fat man has sung. We move on.

Here in the South we often miss the North's snow. There are quintessentially 'Anglophile' elements to Christmas. Holly and Ivy for instance.

And talking of little girls who exhibit that innocence with which they came, and sometimes lose,  a particular favourite of mine is Jackie Evancho. I hoped at the time she first 'appeared' in public that she could escape the clutches of the Industry, but it seems the attacks on purity have been aimed at her family. The world, the flesh and the Devil are hard to resist, and Jackie's brother has been taken by the 'transgender' virus'. Still, she does sing the song. In the silence of the night, I hope she - and he - can still hear the Word.

Now this young woman, Jamie Finch .... I have no idea of her progress, but I like to hear her every year. To me this is the very best version I have had the pleasure of playing.

Of course, good music can be taken to the streets.

And more fine girls......

But, enough. There are many evocative songs you might like to here. I can add them if you tell me.

Meanwhile Perhaps you might remind yourselves of the Fidelity and Generosity of even flawed men by watching the end of Anaclito and the Priest, 'In Persona Christi'.

Christmas Present Time !

I know what I want for Christmas. Do you?  Every year I ask Santa for just one thing: a phone call from a special person. I have not got it for many, many years. I guess I have not been good enough. How about you? Have you made Santa's 'Good' list or are you stuck somewhere on his Bad list?

Failing the one thing I would like I could suggest a few other things of somewhat lesser value. And I am not alone: there are customers with their own wants, some quite valuable and needing a very well heeled Santa.

So, as usual every year, I have collected a few suggestions to suit everyone's budget.

Top of the list, of course.... droit de Tavern Keeper.... is my #2 choice. At a mere $ quarter of a mill.

Somehow I can't see it fitting in Santa's sack, but it could fly alongside the sleigh.

For those with an even more watersome desire, and costing around the same .......

No, it's not your own Orca but a submarine. 2 person.  A pretty damned fancy one, mind you. Wow.

But there is far more likelihood of getting (or giving) something somewhat less expensive, so we turn to the suggestions.

Gnomes, of course, last all year.  Well some do.

And you don't want walking dead gnome lurching up in the dark, so a well lit gnome might be handy.
The sun shines in and the light shines out !

And more. To Trump anyone else's Gnomes. !

But there are other things too.

For the absent minded but very outgoing Professor types.

And for those who like a tipple... (well it is a Tavern)...

Who looks at the underside of the mug they drink from? Hahaha.

Or for those foreigners who could up to now only wish they could speak properly....
For When a British Accent Cuts
Very Handy around the Tavern !!

And one from my faithful and effective Bouncer, that can be yours too..

And because we all know some who need it.

For the auto sorts, the revhead wannabees, don't forget to drop a bottle of this in their stocking. You won't even have to pay for it.

And for old folk, like me so often, especially when I think I have corrected a typo......
Finally, the 'must have' accessory in every public toilet, especially now we are confronted with 'transgendered' folk..... Please place outside the closed door !!

I am sure you can suggest some more of your own.

Now I have to consider Christmas music. Next post.

Pax.

Malicious Hypocricy Rules, KO?

The world is turning upside down and it is no accident. No asteroid hitting it like a billiard ball either. Nope, it is a deliberate and very human  strategy and partially dependant upon egos, lack of brain cells, and maliciousness. The stench of hypocricy becomes stronger by the day as half-wits and those inclined to the sinister left join in an unholy alliance.
Black hearted.

Thank goodness that all in the Tavern is sweet, including a fine carafe of Honey Mead I sent off the other day from my friends down in the Hartzview Vineyard. But I shall come to that later.  We shall need something to get the taste of rank nastiness out of our mouths after we've heard from a couple of people who stopped by.  Bryan Fischer from the US, and Richard Littlejohn from the UK.
Oz has hypocrites too.
From both sides of the 'Pond' that seperates the UK from the US we see the same black-hearted tentacles reaching out.  The sheer nastiness of some people, mostly, I have to say, Left oriented, increases by the day. If it were just 'talk', which for almost anything a 'right' oriented persons utters immediately would be condemned as this or that phobic or 'hate' or of course, Racist!! (tm), it would be minor, but words become actions.

Bigots abound.

First we look at the ludicrous yet applauded declaration by some seamstress that she would not make a dress for Mrs Trump. Hello? Isn't that a criminal offence these days? Refusing to make something for someone. And then there is the fellow in London who just wants to see ordinary British stuff. All hell broke loose over that.
The Dressmaker and the Baker:
Who's the Real Bigot?
Sophie Theallet is one of the top dressmakers in the world. Her designs have been worn by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Jessica Alba, Gabrielle Union, and Michelle Obama.
One of the top, according to whom?  Those nonebrities, named? How many are in the 'top'. Do they include non-white people? Any Catholics amongst them?

She has famously begun a campaign to recruit every major fashion designer in the world to join her in refusing to provide a stitch of clothing to the new first lady, Melania Trump. Other luminaries in the fashion world such as Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs have joined the boycott.
Incitement of Luminaries?  Should this be a new legal category?
So why is Ms. Theallet adamantly, vigorously and publicly refusing to dress the incoming First Lady?
It’s a matter of values, you see.
Her designs are not just dresses. “We consider our voice an expression of our artistic and philosophical ideas." Our brand, she says, “stands against all discrimination and prejudice,” and has “always been a celebration of diversity and a reflection of the world we live in."
So, she stands against all discrimination by discriminating against a particular woman.

How does that work, again?

Never mind the quality, smell the stench.
In other words, her designs represent her values on display, and she refuses to allow her artistic ability to be used on behalf of ideals she finds abhorrent. She is perfectly willing to give up income for the sake of something higher. “Our bottom line is not just about money.”
She concludes, "I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next First Lady. The rhetoric of racism, sexism and xenophobia unleashed by her husband's presidential campaign are incompatible with the shared values we live by."
And for the highbrow elites in the fashion industry, this is perfectly normal, praiseworthy, and worthy of imitation.
Abby Schreiber, the managing editor at Paper Magazine, said, "Fashion has always been about expression, provocation and, not infrequently, politics and, to that end, these designers’ refusal to dress Melania Trump is not, in and of itself, unusual for this industry.”
And she adds, if the person who would like to do business with you is linked to a message that is at odds with the brand you are seeking to cultivate, then it makes perfectly good sense to refuse to do business with them.
“Fashion designers have long attempted to tell a story about their brand and vision and to articulate a feeling, emotion or sense of who their customer or ‘muse’ is. And for those designers who are troubled by the hateful, bigoted rhetoric that surrounded Trump’s campaign, it may make sense for them to want to distance their brand and their vision from it."
Let’s summarize the worldview of the left.
If you are an artist, your work product is a vehicle for expressing your most deeply held values. And you have a right to decline to produce a work product that would violate your own conscience and compromise your values.
This is exactly what Aaron and Melissa Klein did.
Cakes they crafted for weddings represented their artistic talent and communicated a message about their own values. Because they believe, as civilization has for 6000 years, that marriage is exclusively between a man and a woman, they politely declined to produce an artistic design that communicated a message that went against their conscience and convictions.
Their wedding cakes were an expression of their artistic and philosophical ideas, and represented the shared values they live by. They told a story about their brand and vision, and they turned down a job and the money that went with it because their bottom line was about something other than money.
Well, Sophie Theallet has been lionized for her principled stand. She has been called “one of the few truly outspoken voices” in the fashion world, a woman “who make(s) the world go round,” a woman who is “not just admirable but brave,” and “an exceptionally strong woman (who) has integrity in spades.”
In contrast, what happened to the Kleins for taking exactly the same kind of principled stand Sophie Theallet has?
They have been castigated as horrible specimens of bigotry, fined $135,000 by the government of Oregon, and put out of business.
I don’t begrudge Sophie Theallet’s right to make the choice she did. I disagree with her choice, and am unapologetically critical of it (freedom of speech and of the press), but I would never seek to use the coercive power of government to force her to make a dress for Melania Trump or anyone else. The First Amendment says she can “peaceably assemble” with anyone she wants to, and she shouldn’t be forced to do business with anyone she doesn’t want to. But neither should the Kleins.
The Kleins have exactly the same constitutional right Sophie Theallet does, the right of association, and on top of that they also have an even more sacred right, the right to the “free exercise” of religion, which is a right they possess not just one hour a week on Sunday mornings but 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including the hours they spend in a bakery they own.
As lesbian writer Tammy Bruce has pointed out, it’s a form of tyranny to require the Kleins to do work in violation of their conscience and a form of slavery to require them to do work against their own will.
Only a bigot of the worst sort would attempt to deprive the Kleins of not just one but two explicit constitutionally-guaranteed rights and violate the 13th Amendment in the process.
I will believe liberals and their demonizing screeches about the Kleins just as soon as they try to fine Sophie Theallet $135,000 and put her completely out of business.
Until then, they will continue to be, in my judgment, not only Christophobic bigots but hypocrites of the darkest dye.
I would readily sit back and enjoy the spectacle of Mrs Trump phoning the Theallet harpy and asking for a dress; getting refused; and then sueing the britches off the hypocrite. Yes, forgiveness can only be given after a trespass so bring one on! Let Sophie the needle and thread Bigot suffer the consequences just as Melissa and Aaron did.  I would drink a glass of Hartzview Honey Mead to that.

Now, I can hear the cries from the lefties already. They will say something about discriminating against 'classes' of people as opposed to just poor Mrs Trump. She isn't part of an approves 'victim' group. She gets hung out to dry.  It isn't as though Mrs Trump has run for Office.  She is simply closely associated with someone Sophie is bigotted against who has run for Office. Perhaps had Sophie refused to make dresses for Mrs Obama the lefties would have been up in arms and B.O. might have personally ordered her prosecution.

But Sophie the Seamstress gives her own reasons which are nothing to do with other people, classes or individual, but instead it is all about her and her 'values'; her 'art'. She can refuse to have her art, imbued as they are with her values, being bought and used by anyone at her choosing.  As Bryan points out, it is quite reasonable that she can pick and choose who buys and uses her stuff. The lefty excusers, however, do not allow the same rationale apply to bakers and florists. Sophie can pick and choose but others cannot. There lies the hypocricy.

So, across the waters we go to swinging London where some poor sod is threatened with swinging from a rope. The 'Tolerant', 'Diversity' brigade  from the Battalion of Light Hypocrites is hard at work showing their ubiquitous brand of 'acceptance'.
When did brown sauce and Union Jack knickers become racist?

The owner of a novelty gift shop called ‘Really British’ says he has been smeared as a RAY-CIST! by a bunch of bigoted, brain-dead Guardianistas. Chris Ostwald claims to be the target of an online campaign aimed at forcing him to change the shop’s name.
He’s accused of being ‘pro-Brexit’, as if that’s on a par with paedophilia, and has been hit with a boycott.
The store only opened at the end of November, but Chris has already lost one member of staff who resigned after her first day because she was fed up with the abuse. And she’s Spanish.

People have been walking in to the shop, on Muswell Hill Broadway, in North London, simply to complain about its alleged ‘racism’. He’s been warned that the place will be picketed to deter potential customers.

From the furious reaction on anti-social media, you’d think Chris was selling National Front T-shirts, BNP baseball caps and signs reading ‘No blacks, no dogs, no Irish’.
All he’s doing is flogging quintessentially British nick-nacks and souvenirs, such as brown sauce, London Underground tea-towels, Union Jack knickers, Prince Charles’s favourite socks and models of the Queen.

Mind you, the mere sight of our national flag is enough to give these Left-wing mentalists an attack of the screaming ab-dabs.
Chris says he was forced to take down two Union flags for fear of reprisals. How long before some self-appointed social justice warrior decides to lob a brick through the window?

A Facebook page called Muswell Hill and Friends provides a forum for this confected ‘anti-racist’ rubbish. Some of the protests are hilarious.

One nutter wrote: ‘Like many people I live in London because of its international nature, and for me having a big sign saying “Really British” makes me feel you’re implying that other businesses in the area are therefore somehow “not really British”.

‘Some will no doubt say I’m over-sensitive but I can’t help thinking that given the recent divisive referendum and the current political climate you might have chosen a more inclusive name in 2016.’

Nurse!
No, m'boy, I would not say you are oversensitive. I would say you were a malicious little twerp.
OK, so this could be a publicity stunt designed to get some free advertising for Chris’s new venture. He certainly seems to be enjoying the attention. But I have no doubt the rabid reaction he describes is genuine.

We lived down the hill from the Broadway for 12 years, so I’m familiar with the area. It’s where the Davies brothers — Ray and Dave — mainstays of the Kinks, that most English and proudly working class of pop groups, grew up. Chris even sells Muswell Hillbillies mugs, after the band’s 1971 album of the same name.
Oz Malicious

Muswell Hill has always had pretensions, though. It’s one of the posher parts of the London Borough of Haringey, which voted 75 per cent to Remain in June.

Like its near neighbour Crouch End, it’s home to people who can’t afford to live in super-affluent, artsy-fartsy Hampstead and Highgate. Consequently, house prices have gone through the roof. A bog-standard semi will set you back over £1 million.

These days it’s been colonised by Guardian-reading middle-class professionals, who can afford the mortgage payments. And they are precisely the kind of folk who find any hint of patriotism not only ‘racist’ but borderline Nazi.

I just wish they were a little more inventive with their invective. Their knee-jerk inclination is to scream ‘RAY-CIST!’ at anyone who offends their sensibilities. It’s the all-purpose insult intended to silence those who disagree with their political agenda.

You voted Leave?

RAY-CIST!
Think immigration is too high?
RAY-CIST!
Don’t believe in climate change?
Er, RAY-CIST!
The whole ‘racism’ slur is so tiresome and predictable that it has become utterly meaningless.
But it’s not difficult to imagine them going out of their tiny Chinese minds — to borrow an expression from the late Denis Healey — over a shop called Really British in the heart of Remain country.
It’s a daily reminder, as they trek to the health food cafe for their quinoa-infused soya wheatgrass wossnames, that they LOST.
Boo-hoo.
How on earth, otherwise, can anyone get outraged about a suburban novelty shop, six miles from the centre of our capital city, selling British bric-a-brac, memorabilia and models of the Queen and flying the Union flag? It’s deranged.
In the normal course of events, I wouldn’t take much notice of ‘social media storms’. But this one is directed at defaming a small businessman and destroying his livelihood unless he falls into line and changes the name of his shop.
And it is also an illustration of the post-Brexit vote pantomime in microcosm. The Remoaners don’t really have any convincing reasons to stay in the sclerotic, corrupt and currently imploding European Union.
In fact, the noisy attempts to derail Brexit have almost nothing to do with the benefits or otherwise of being a member of the EU.
No, it’s all about them.
Ranting and raving about Leave voters being racist, ignorant and gullible scum of the earth is simply another way of reinforcing their own inflated opinion of themselves as morally superior beings. It’s why Chris Ostwald’s shop has been singled out for self-righteous abuse, too.

By smearing him as a RAY-CIST! these potty, po-faced protesters are burnishing their right-on credentials. They may be Muswell Hillbillies but — unlike those ghastly Little Englanders who wave the Union flag and voted for Brexit — they want everyone to know that first and foremost they are caring, compassionate ‘citizens of the world’.

To adapt Ray Davies, from the title track of that 1971 Kinks album:

I’m a Muswell Hillbilly boy,

But my heart lies in old West Somalia.

Makes you proud to be British.
It is enough to drive a chap to drink, so I heartily recommend (hmmmm, going outside the Tavern, I know) a splendid little tipple as mentioned at the beginning.
A blend of premium Tasmanian honey, apples and cloves, cinnamon resulting in a rich luscious creamy Honey Mead.

In fact, have a look. They may even send you some if you ask them nicely.

"I can Wear what I Want !"

Remember when the cry of a woman used to be, "I've got nothing to wear"?  Oh yes, that was just this morning.  Most men have heard it and indeed very occasionally might have uttered the same under his breath when looking at his sparse and often boring wardrobe. Men do tend, mostly, to have far fewer clothes than women seem to have. 'Twas always thus.

I was out and about the other day sitting outside a cafe having a coffee. . It was a mildish day, the sun was out from time to time and a breeze was blowing. My jacket and trousers, t-shirt and sneakers were adequate. I watched the folk pass by. A young woman, I gauged to be about twenty or so, sat nearby with a similar aged chap. She was in a scanty tank-top, bare midriff, tiny skirt that was so small she was unable to sit on it. Her thonged-crotch was quite visible. He said to her, "Aren't you cold?" She replied, scowling, ....

" I can wear what I want"

And there was I thinking he was being concerned that she might be cold ! Hah.

I don't know how young women manage to get about in the cold. Bare arms; bare shoulders; bare legs; bare everything bar tiny bits of the body that are best covered at the best of times. And even they are 'on display'.

Yes, she can wear whatever she wants. It is a mantra these days. Not that men don't get blamed anyway.  If he isn't 'looking', he's not looking. Either way he is at fault. Almost any reaction he might have is going to be wrong or interpreted as wrong. It's the old 'Does my bum look big in this ?' game. He can't win even when simply concerned for her.

But what she wears can give impressions she does NOT want. That it seems is his fault too.

I was pleased to hear Corrine Barraclough sounding off in the Oz room. She sounded quite sensible on the matter.  Although.......
Women don’t have the right to ‘wear what they want’
“You’re not going out like that”.
They’re the words teenagers dread, uttered by anxious parents desperate to keep their precious children as safe as possible, for as long as possible. Frantic dress-code negotiations ensue involving longer skirts, higher necklines and less makeup.
Why should this cautious mentality be abandoned when people turn 18?
If we recognise the vital importance of protecting children and teens from prying eyes and dirty minds, that same logic applies at 21, 30, 55 and beyond. The world doesn’t suddenly change simply because you’ve clocked up another year.
And who has the dirty minds?
Logic we learn as children applies equally when we’re adults. The way we cross the road doesn’t become more reckless as we age. Neither does stranger danger become a moot point.
Every time a hideous headline about a woman being attacked on a night out hits our news cycle the argument begins. “It shouldn’t matter what she was wearing,” some screech.
Perhaps it shouldn’t — but of course it does.
If it didn’t, why would we care about children wearing makeup? Why do parents pressure shops to stock “suitable” clothes for kids? Why do we work so hard to maintain the innocence of youth and then set fire to common sense when we light enough candles on the cake to signify someone’s become an adult?
The myth that a woman should be able to wear what she wants is as bizarre as the dangerous feminist fantasy “right to get drunk”.
Like all erroneous things fem-faux, it’s based on ideology rather than fact. Reality check: many people aren’t pure and crime is as much a fact of life as paying bills.
You may well be free to wear whatever you like — depending on the culture you live in. However, in fashion maths a plunging neckline will equal more turning heads. Furious feminists may want men’s heads not to turn, but all the singing in the world isn’t going to rewrite the hymn.
There is another small issue Corrine doesn't mention.

Clothes maketh more than just the men.

If you want a Policeman, how do you recognise one? Its the clothes, innit?  So too the 'lady of the night'.
Dress like a cop and people are quite likely to think you are one. Dress like a hook.. whoops, a empowered woman offering sexual pleasures to passers-by for a small fee, and.....

And we all have to acknowledge that very first game a little girl learns to play.

By age three and just after she has mastered her potty training lessons, she graduates from nappies to knickers, which she insists on showing everyone and anyone.

It is a game she continues well into her thirties. Some even older.
In my local area there’s an attention-seeking, look-at-me blonde who cycles along the beach path wearing a thong and oversized headphones. Her ears are more covered than her cheeks. Don’t try and tell me that’s comfortable.
If skimpy clothing didn’t contribute to sexual objectification, hardworking girls in Kings Cross would have much more comfortable nights wearing jeans, oversized shirts and trainers. They would also save a fortune on makeup.
Would Pretty Woman work as a film if Julia Roberts’ wardrobe didn’t change?
An article in NY Times asserted, “…being a ‘slut’ is good — but only when the girl herself is orchestrating her reputation and maintains control over it.
The word has become a way for girls to assert a positive, even defiant attitude about their sexuality.” Delusion ¬appears to be on-trend.
The message you send to the world doesn’t depend on complex discussions you’ve had in gender studies classes about power, pleasure, rights, wrongs and the myth of the patriarchy.
You’re not in control of how the world perceives you.
The sooner you accept that, the safer you will be.
Feminists before you didn’t fight hard for the right to vote for you now to demand the right to walk around in a G-string and heels and remain safe. If you’ve run out of sensible things to fight for, perhaps feminism has served its purpose. Real-life headlines constantly bombard us with the unfortunate truth that crime is living and breathing darkly all around us.
This has nothing to do with “shaming” and everything to do with realism accessorised with personal responsibility.

Dressing like an adult woman does not mean donning a black garbage bag.  It does not require a woman - let alone force her or take away her 'rights' - to wear a bustle (which was her choice) and skirts to the floor (which often remains her choice).

She can and does look far more alluring - if that is what she 'wants' - wearing well-tailored, modest and attractive clothes of which the market is happy to provide. They do not have to show her crotch to all and sundry

She may also keep warm.

I expect that Corrine (and even I ) will be talking into the wind, however. Even the most ridiculous female clothing can be adapted.
Modern mantras can be adapted too. "You go Girl" is easily changed to "You Showgirl", and that is what all too many young women do.

Its the display.

And the playing of the game of Blame.

Ladies, you do not have  anything that 3000,000,000 other ladies do not have. Get over yourselves.

Pax.

Trust a Conservative Government?

The hoohaa continues apace about the impending Trump accession to the American Throne.  The days of Sultan Obama are over and soon the newspapers and TVs will be gnashing their teeth to the howls of 'Long Live the King'.  The impending doom is already being overstated, as though everything that is good and lefty will be overturned overnight.

Fat chance.

In the Tavern we have noted the succession of 'right' wing people taking over from the lefties in various foreign locations. Even here on this sunny Isle. The lefties bring in all sorts of oppressive mayhem and then they get kicked out by the voters, only to find that the 'righties' have agendas of their own and take no action against what the lefties did.

Will Trump get rid of Obamacare, for instance? Do not hold your breath or you may turn blue.

Will he stop making war all over the shop? What, with General 'Mad Dog' Mattis in the defence chair? A fine warrior who is very likely to do what warriors are likely to do.

We saw it here in Oz. The lefties were thrown out but guess what happened to all their destructive legislation.

It is still there.

Whether it is socialist, feminist, pseudo-marxist or anything that is at odds with sound, family, traditional careful social management, the wreckers know that what they do will only be howled at but not shot at.

It happens here in Oz, as we heard today, and elsewhere.

We were encouraged a year or two back when the conservatives took over from the labour-feminist-green mob in Hilary's Village down the mountain which has introduced draconian measures against good people who wish to help pregnant mothers. But the new mob has done nothing to repeal it. They still fund, from taxpayers' monies a raft of 'tribunals' that interfere and impose socialist-feminist-green  laws.

So we were only slightly encouraged the other week when it was reported from France that the Catholics were massing around the President's Palace, shaking their Rosaries.  It is very possible that a 'rightist' Government will be in power next year.

But that has not stopped the latest French lefty law outrage. They know with almost certainty that a new government will leave the law in place.  Pete Balinski filled us in:
French government votes to ban pro-life websites
'Digital Interference' Law , Abortion , France
The socialist government of France passed a bill after one day's debate that criminalizes websites that might dissuade women from abortion.
The “digital interference” bill is aimed at cracking down on French websites that would, in the words of the bill, "deliberately mislead, intimidate and/or exert psychological or moral pressure to discourage recourse to abortion."
Mislead, means show what really happens with abortions. Exert psychological or moral pressure means any offer to help a woman who might want to consider an alternative, such as birth and adoption.
Convicted website owners could face two years in prison and fines up to 30,000 euros ($31,799 USD).
The majority left voted in a block for the bill while the minority right formed a block against it.
Bruno Retailleau, who heads the Republicans party group in the Senate, told French radio Thursday that the bill "is totally against freedom of expression,” adding that it contradicts the 1975 law that legalized abortion and which called for women to be informed of alternatives.
Christian Democratic Party member Jean-Frederic Poisson also blasted the bill  on Twitter for what he saw as the government's double standard in banning sites that propose “alternatives” to abortion but not “jihadist websites.”
Two of the country’s leading prelates have strongly condemned the bill, with Cardinal André Vingt-Trois of Paris criticizing the French government for its....
“obsession” with abortion,
while Archbishop Georges Pontier of Marseille has slammed the bill as a “very serious attack on the principles of democracy.”
France, where abortion is 100 percent state-funded during the first 12 weeks of gestation, has a long history of criminalizing activities aimed at convincing pregnant women to keep their preborn babies.
The crime of “obstructing” the functioning of an abortion clinic was first adopted by the Neiertz law in 1993. This was widened in 2001 to include exercising “moral and psychological pressures” on women that might convince them against abortion. Finally, in 2014 the government made it a crime to “obstruct access to information” on abortion while expanding the scope of the offense of “obstruct[ing] the voluntary termination of pregnancy.”
Dr. Joseph Meaney, director of international coordination for Human Life International, has warned that the bill would cause a “pro-death storm” to sweep across France.
“It is aimed at banning pro-life websites and is really plunging towards ‘thought crimes.’ Even liberal bishops are speaking out against the penal sanctions for free speech,” he told LifeSiteNews for an earlier report.
Meaney called the proposed law pro-abortion "propaganda" that will not stand up under legal scrutiny.
Hmmmmm. It is far more than that.
"We are in the realm of unrestricted pro-abortion propaganda and the most stringent censorship of free speech if it contradicts the view that abortion is a wonderful solution to crisis pregnancies," he said.

Good try lefties. It is likely to get passed. It may have hurdels and it may not get passed. We shall see. But that will not stop the lefties trying, and they know that if it does pass it will stay.

Like the 'Bad' laws in France and Tasmania, Oz Federally has a raft of stupid laws that aid and abet Feminists in their extortions. The conservatives have had time enough to get rid of the stupid and annoying laws brought in by arch-Misandrist Julia Gillard, but guess what. There they still are.

Here we have Gender Kommisars. And they have powers to ruin businesses. Fortunately thare are some business owners with balls who are all too willing to tell them to take a hike.  Frank Chung whet his whistle and blew"
Australian storage king hits out at gender cop
SELF-STORAGE mogul Sam Kennard has lashed out at the government’s gender equality watchdog after his business was “named and shamed” for not filling a complicated annual questionnaire.

In its latest annual report, the
Workplace Gender Equality Agency
has published the names of businesses which fell foul of the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012.
Under the law, companies with more than 100 employees are required to lodge a report with the WGEA every year detailing “gender equality indicators” such as male-to-female ratios and salaries.
The WGEA itself, which costs taxpayers $5 million a year to run, employs five male and 25 female staff. Read that again. They have
5 men and 25 women.

Among the 74 businesses deemed “non-compliant” by the WGEA this year include household names like Kennards Self Storage, Bing Lee, Vittoria Coffee, Palace Cinemas and Sportsmans Warehouse. Also named were the likes of Williams-Sonoma, EB Games, and a number of plumbing, cleaning, freight and transport companies.
“Non-compliant organisations may not be eligible to tender for contracts under Commonwealth
and some state procurement frameworks, and may not be eligible for some Commonwealth grants or other financial assistance,” the report warns.
Coercion. Bullying. Ah, but its a feminist government agency, innit.
Mr Kennard, who contested Joe Hockey’s North Sydney seat in the December 2015 by-election for the Liberal Democrats, said the WGEA was an organisation “dripping with hypocrisy” that “should be abolished”.
“My company does not discriminate for race, age, sex or religion,” he said.
“If someone has a good attitude, not afraid of work and willing to learn they’re a starter in our view. This is not a particularly profound or enlightened perspective — it is just common sense. It is good for business.
“I can confirm that we do discriminate against time-wasting bureaucracies. The WGEA is a prime example of unnecessary government intrusion into the activities of businesses. My business has much more productive endeavours to pursue than filling out paperwork for government agencies like the WGEA.”
The 'Ideal' inclusive, gender-balanced Board.
All female, all white. HuffPo.
But hey, its Wimmin's Business innit.

Mr Kennard said his company was challenged enough to “make our business better, to give customers a better experience and to operate efficiently without distractions like this”. “The WGEA impost is 100 per cent pure overhead,” he said.
“While politicians and economists lament the declining productivity in our economy, it is exactly this red-tape and the imposts of these bureaucracies that tax the efforts of enterprise. If the government was serious about tackling productivity it would get out of our way — it would abolish the WGEA and the abundance of other regulations they lay on.
“I am personally driven to the see the best outcomes for my business and believe strongly that good performance should be encouraged and rewarded irrespective of sex. We are conscious of HR shortcomings, appreciate the challenges and work to overcome them.”
Mr Kennard added that it was “pleasing that there are plenty of non-taxpayer funded advocates for the success of women, which further emphasises that this is an area the government does not need to participate in”.
Meanwhile, Mia Johannsen, head of people and culture at Palace Cinemas, said the company was deemed non-compliant because it wasn’t willing to share “private individual salary information” with the WGEA.
“Initially we did send through some information regarding gender split and the different roles, but we didn’t want to comment with anything confidential such as the private salaries of our employees,” she said.
“We employ more females than males, 53 per cent to 47 per cent, so obviously we are completely for gender equality. We have many women in senior management, including myself.”
Ms Johannsen said Palace Cinemas “regret being labelled as non-compliant”. “It would be a lot easier if the process was simpler,” she said.
“The process to be able to lodge all of this information was very long and extensive and it took days for my predecessor to even locate that information, so I think that was the issue [in previous years].”

WEGA is an interfering, coercive Stasi. It should have gone on day one of the last Abbott Government. Along with 18C and a raft of other  society -wrecking laws.

But they are still there.

Time will tell if the new Trump mob will do any better. The first signs of improvement will be the repeal of socialist laws, especially recent ones.

Watch.

Drink a few pints.

Don't hold your breath.
