You do not have to be rich to be a virtue signaller. It is a job open to all, be they rich or poor, educated or not. No degree necessary. But if you are rich you can afford your own flagpole. You do not have to wait in a mob on a street corner for the TV Cameras and throw rocks just to be taken as a moral pundit. Hoist your flag, but be careful it is not a petard and your foot is caught in the rope.

I would really like to see Handsome George come good. I can wait. He sounds good; he says lots of 'socially approved' things; he's very Politically Correct is our George. Heck he even drinks podded coffee!  And he talks to and about refugees. Here he is.....

So his grand-dad was Oirish, therefore he has something in common with folk running under a hail of bullets like his friend Hilary. Hmmmm.  He just happened across those refugees in Berlin, where he can afford to go just as they can. But he also has a little place in Como which he imagined few refugees could afford. But they looked him up while trying to pass through.

People have noticed that George has not been very accommodating.

George Clooney is a very typical Hollywood hero. He has been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump since the moment that 'the Donald' entered the race. Apparently, karma does come back. All Clooney’s trash talk has finally got back to him.

So far though, a makeshift camp-site by illegal Muslim refugees in Clooney’s backyard in fashionable Lake Como, Italy means little to the politically correct activist.

And although Clooney, over-the-hill singer Madonna and other mega-rich celebrities make the Italian resort their vacation hotspot, rest assured that this situation will be ignored by the rich and famous.

So far, Catholic Charities' local chapter has been handling the unwelcome influx of refugees, which at last count reported over 1,000 just within the last few weeks alone.

Roberto Bernasconi, a spokesman for Catholic Charities, acknowledged that the situation is growing increasingly hard, saying: “But it is very difficult; we do not know how to welcome all these people. 

In the Como diocese we have over 2,000 migrants in the facilities, there is no room.”

Check out some of George's new neighbors. I'm sure he will invite them over to welcome them to the hood.

However this would be a perfect time for Clooney who described “The Donald” as a “xenophobic fascist,” to actually put into practice what he preaches and simply open his multi-million dollar lakeside mansion and take in few hundred of those Muslim refugees, then we may actually say he’s a man of his word…we’re waiting George.

So far George has kept his head down looking at his $1000 shoes and wondering if he should swap them for a nescafe. It just might be - to be fair - that he simply hasn't noticed all those people he claims to share a lot in common with, but his neighbours have had plenty to say.

And Robert De Niro rubs shoulders with Clooney over cocktails at the lakeside Harry’s Bar where VIPs can enjoy a drink without fear of being photographed, just a few miles from the border.

Meanwhile African migrants at one hostel have told MailOnline how they were forced to leave Italy because their asylum applications are turned down. 

If their demand is rejected they are no longer eligible to the Euro 75 per month subsistence allowance and are evicted from the hostel.

Warrior Queens & Court Jesters

Eat your poisonous heart out Hillary. Not as Great as it was but still up there leading the world as usual Britain has done it again, appointing a woman to run the place.  In that most obviously 'Partiarchal' society, which once reached out and conquered a third of the world, it must have left the lefties and feminists nonplussed - and Hillary Clinton spitting teeth.

So much for male oppression. Once again Britain has a Queen and her Lady of the National Chamber in charge. And I say appointed as while it is usual for a Democratic place like Britain for the People to vote a leader and his/her Party into power, here we have a woman simply getting the nod by a few hoity toities around her rather than asking the hoi poloi. Nevertheless there was a lot of laughter in the UK Bar.

Not many chaps seemed to want the job being as significant change was afoot. So Theresa May got the job. Having watched a little of her walking to and  from No 10 just before and after the accession it occurred to some in the Tavern that perhaps she had been Monty Python's Minister of Funny Walks. A tad rude I thought but heck. 

It remains to be seen just what a job she makes of it. She has said enough and often enough for us to get at least an 'impression' if not a prediction.

The first female Prime Minister a while back, Maggi T, took the nation to war, and the time is ripening for Terri M to do it again.  Maggi did not have much warning of President Galtieri's intentions but we have all got a strong wiff of Mohammed's.  Will she or won't she? Theresa May or may not.  Either way she has a big task ahead of her and will need a strong bunch of Ministers around her.  Not much chance of that, I'm afraid, So she wasted no time in appointing a Court Jester. 

Dealing with 'internal' matters and external matters has always been the most un-noticed aspect of Female Rule, it seems.  

A recent study has come forward - it lobbed onto the top of the US Room bar from somewhere - looking at the war-like qualities of women leaders whom, we are told over and over  by the feminists, would rule with empathy and nurtuting and far superior communications skill and conflict resolution.

As if !!

European Queens Waged More Wars Than Kings

There’s an assumption about women in power that you may have heard: that women who lead tend to be more diplomatic than their male counterparts, resulting in a more peaceful world.

Psychologist Steven Pinker, for instance, wrote in his 2011 book, The Better Angels of Our Nature, “Over the long sweep of history, women have been and will be a pacifying force.” But how much of that is true?

After sifting through historical data on queenly reigns across six centuries, two political scientists have found that it’s more complicated than that. 

In a recent working paper, New York University scholars Oeindrila Dube and S.P. Harish analyzed 28 European queenly reigns from 1480 to 1913 and ....

found a 27 percent increase in wars 

...when a queen was in power, as compared to the reign of a king. 

“People have this preconceived idea that states that are led by women engage in less conflict,” Dube told Pacific Standard, but her analysis of the data on European queens suggests another story.

Interestingly, Dube and Harish think the reason why queens were able to take part in more military policy can be explained by the division of labor that tended to happen when a queen — particularly a married queen — ruled. 

Queens managed foreign policy and war policies, which were often important to bring in cash, while their husbands managed the state (think taxes, crime, judicial issues, etc.).

As the authors theorize, “greater division of labor under queenly reigns could have enabled queens to pursue more aggressive war policies.” 

Kings, on the other hand, didn’t tend to engage in division of labor like ruling queens — or, more specifically, they may have shared military and state duties with some close adviser, but not with the queen. 

And, Dube and Harish argue, it may be this “asymmetry in how queens relied on male spouses and kings relied on female spouses [that] strengthened the relative capacity of queenly reigns, facilitating their greater participation in warfare.”

Female reigns may have had higher capacity to carry out war since queens often put their spouses in charge of official state matters. This division of labor would then have freed up time and resources for queens to pursue more aggressive war policies. In contrast, kings typically were less inclined to put their spouses in official positions through which they could aid in managing the polity.

This asymmetry in spousal division of labor emerged in several realms. Since women didn’t serve as heads of militaries, queens would often appoint their husbands to this role, though kings of course, did not do the same with their wives.. As an example, when Queen Dona Maria II of Portugal married Prince Augustus Francis Anthony in 1836, their marriage contract stated that he would serve as commander in chief of the army.

And when husbands of queens managed state affairs, the success of the country was strong. The authors point to Francis Stephen, who revamped the Austrian economic system while his wife, Queen Maria Theresa, used that cash to bolster the army. “Spousal support,” in other words, was a win-win for these royal couples, allowing queens to not only be more invested but also more successful than their peers who acted alone. (Modern couples, take note.) That doesn’t mean that queens and kings always agreed — qualitative data suggests that, in fact, queens and kings often disagreed, and virulently, with some queens marching onto the battlefield without their spouse’s approval. And a few kings weren’t too happy with being “king-consort,” bickering with their wives over the title.

The queens’ marital status made a difference here; as the authors write, “among married monarchs, queens were more likely to participate as attackers than kings.” 

If a queen were single — which was the case with 13 of those they studied — she was more likely to be attacked compared to the times when a king was in power, perhaps because her country was seen in the outside world as being more vulnerable and thus easier to attack.

Hmmmm. Fair assumption, I suppose. Although Elizabeth 1st must have queered their stats a bit.

But the authors emphasize that the increase in wars on a queen’s watch is not likely explained by an attempt by the female leaders to signal their strength. Were that true, you’d expect a spike in war participation earlier in the queens’ careers, and that wasn’t the case according to the data analyzed here. Dube and Harish also argue that the queens were not actively seeking to fight more wars. But here are a few more relevant commonalities of queenly reigns: Queens didn’t tend to use war ministers as much as kings, they relegated other tasks to their husbands, and they often threw themselves into the policy-making machine wholeheartedly.

It’s just a working paper, which means that Dube and Harish may uncover more as they continue to research this subject. But so far their findings have already begun to poke a few holes in some commonly held assumptions.

But let us not dwell on the past. We have Boris to lead international relations into a new wirld of gaffe possibilities. If you think Denis Thatcher and Prince Phil's remarks weren't diplomatically pertinent any more, just wait for a few years of Boris. Ex- Lord Mayor of London, Boris Johnson is the son of a Turkish immigrant but he has a vocabulary that can outstrip anything anyone anywhere can bring to the table. My dear friend the Southern Gal is just amazed at how the British can give a 'put down' that the recipient only understands ten minutes later. Boris is a master. He will take on anyone, no matter how 'high'.

Tory MP Boris Johnson – famed for apologising to the city of Liverpool – appears to have gone one better and offended an entire country.

Mr Johnson has been forced to apologise to Papua New Guinea after he linked it to “cannibalism and chief-killing”.

The flamboyant frontbencher made the comments in his newspaper column.

But Papua New Guinea’s High Commissioner in London failed to see the funny side and Mr Johnson had to issue an apology for causing offence.

The spat was caused by remarks made in Mr Johnson’s Daily Telegraph column about the Labour leadership crisis.

Mr Johnson wrote: “For 10 years we in the Tory Party have become used to Papua New Guinea-style orgies of cannibalism and chief-killing, and so it is with a happy amazement that we watch as the madness engulfs the Labour Party.”

But Jean L Kekedo, Papua New Guinea’s High Commissioner in London, reacted angrily to the remarks.

She said: “I consider the comments, coming from a senior British MP very damaging to the image of Papua New Guinea and an insult to the integrity and intelligence of all Papua New Guineans.

“I wish to state that I am shocked and appalled by such comments from a seemingly well-educated person of very high standing, in fact the alternative minister for higher education in the House of Commons.

“How far removed and ill-informed can Mr Johnson be from the reality of the situation in modern-day Papua New Guinea?”

Ms Kekedo told BBC Radio 4’s PM programme she hoped Mr Johnson would visit her country, although he might be refused a visa because of his comments.

‘Blameless domesticity’

Mr Johnson sent an apology for any offence caused within minutes of the story emerging, adding that he might embark on apology world tour.

“I would like to thank the High Commissioner very much for her clarification,” he said. “I meant no insult to the people of Papua New Guinea who I’m sure ...

lead lives of blameless bourgeois domesticity in common with the rest of us.”

Mr Johnson told PM he was not retracting his comments, he thought they were accurate, but not meant to be about modern Papua New Guinea.

He said he had seen a “fantastic” Time Life book which showed photographs of tribesman in Papua New Guinea in the 1950s or 1960s engaged in “primitive warfare and killing”. It seemed a “perfectly fair, florid, flowery metaphor for what’s going on in the Labour Party”.

Mr Johnson said he would be happy to “add Papua New Guinea to my global itinerary of apology”.

Hahaha. The Foreign Office will have a busy schedule. (Pronounced as in 'shed').

Science Reverting to the Dark Ages.

As I was saying earlier, the conversation in the Tavern continued into and through the night, mainly because those who had not left for home by 11pm could not get out. Tasmania, for those who keep up with what is going on was blanketed by snow up to the armpits and it banked up against the doors. So we were in for a wait. So much for global warming, eh? The rest of us gathered around the fire discussing 'Science'.

It did offer an opportunity to show off and put to good use the new furniture at the far end of the P & B.

I was reminded of the mediaeval warm period, which I recall distinctly but which is more than can be said for modern thinkers on the subject. Back in those days at this time of the year we could return from the joust of an afternoon for a dip and a spot of lounging around the moat in our budgie smugglers and a chance to mingle with the ladies and serving wenches. (And what did you think we used the moat for?) Nowadays - well, today - it is brass monkey temperature.

The rise in civilisation was partially through the good offices of the Monks  and rather clever lay chaps who devised 'Science'. Socrates before them had focussed attention on asking questions properly, unblocking many doors, and the urge to know my Supplier's creation spurred the development of 'scientific method'.  

Somehow His words about the Way, the Truth and the Light seem to have changed a little and I am sure some lab-coated chaps now think He said the Way, the Consensus and the Light.

Whatever, the effect is that we seem to have abandoned objective reality testing and fallen into airey-fairy tales that well cited chaps can agree upon. And frankly some of those tales are long and shaggy.

Our culture is deteriorating with this lack of intellectual rigour and properly conducted enquiry, and many would say the corrupting influences of fame and fortune. The latter generally in the form of millions in Taxpayer's dollars.

So it was that Melanie Phillips came to be sitting with Paul Honeywell and Lord Christopher Monkton in my very comfortable armchairs while I kept them well supplied from my cellars.

SCIENCE IS TURNING BACK TO THE DARK AGES

Overplaying the threat to coral reefs is just the latest example of ideology distorting research

According to a new study, scientists’ claims that coral reefs are doomed by ocean acidification are overplayed. An “inherent bias” in scientific journals, says the editor of ICES Journal of Marine Science, has excluded research showing marine creatures are not being damaged.

Instead, he says, many studies have used flawed methods by subjecting such creatures to sudden increases in carbon dioxide that would never happen in real life. No surprises there. The claim that CO2 emissions are acidifying the oceans is a favourite of climate-change alarmists.

Man-made global warming theory has been propped up by studies that many scientists have dismissed as methodologically flawed, ideologically bent or even fraudulent. The problem of scientific integrity, however, goes far wider. Psychology, neuroscience, physics and other scientific areas have been convulsed by revelations of dodgy research.

Richard Horton, editor-in-chief of The Lancet, has written bleakly: “The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue.”

I am pretty sure I have heard much the same in the Tavern before. 

One reason is that cash-strapped universities, competing for money and talent, exert huge pressure on academics to publish more and more to meet the box-ticking criteria set by grant-funding bodies. Corners are being cut and mistakes being made.

But whatever happened to peer-review, the supposed kitemark of scientific integrity produced by the collective judgment of other researchers? 

Well, that seems to have gone south too. 

In 1998 Fiona Godlee, editor of the British Medical Journal, sent an article containing eight deliberate mistakes to more than 200 of the BMJ’s regular reviewers. Not one picked out all the mistakes. On average, they reported fewer than two; some did not spot any.

The problem lies with research itself. The cornerstone of scientific authority rests on the notion that replicating an experiment will produce the same result. If replication fails, the research is deemed flawed. 

But failure to replicate is widespread. 

Indeed, it has to be said that replication is just not possible in many cases. Hense it is not 'science' at all or at least rigorous science.  Replicating a computer model run is fatuous. 

In 2012, the OECD spent $59 billion on biomedical research, nearly double the 2000 figure. Yet an official at America’s National Institutes of Health has said researchers would find it hard to reproduce at least three-quarters of all published biomedical findings.

A 2005 study by John Ioannidis, an epidemiologist at Stanford University, said the majority of published research findings were probably false. At most, no more than about one in four findings from early-phase clinical trials would be true; epidemiological studies might have only a one in five chance of being true. “Empirical evidence on expert opinion”, he wrote, “shows that it is extremely unreliable”. […]

Underlying much of this disarray is surely the pressure to conform to an idea, whether political, commercial or ideological. 

Ideological fads produce financial and professional incentives to conform and punishment for dissent, whether loss of grant-funding or lack of advancement. As Professor Ioannidis observed: “For many current scientific fields, claimed research findings may often be simply accurate measures of the prevailing bias.” […]

Underlying this loss of scientific bearings is a closed intellectual circle. 

Scientists pose as secular priests. 

They alone, they claim, hold the keys to the universe. Those who aren’t scientists merely express uneducated opinion. The resulting absence of openness and transparency is proving the scientists’ undoing. In the words of Richard Horton, “science has taken a turn towards darkness”. But science defines modernity. It is our gold standard of truth and reason. 

This is the darkness of the West too.

And from the general to the specific we are talking of Global warming as a main disciplinary problem.

Lord Monkton had plenty to say (even if we cut him short here). He is possibly one of the top five knowledgable 'laymen' in the critics ranks.

But he is not alone by any means.

Fraud in pursuit of politics undermines trust in government everywhere

The Washington Times asked some pertinent questions about NOAA’s shady practices: 

Pure science undertaken for science’s own sake is as rare as a rainbow. It’s certainly scarce in Washington, where the quest for knowledge is vulnerable to the bias of politics. Skeptics of President Obama’s climate change agenda say they see new evidence of fraud.

If administration officials are colluding with scientists to cook the evidence, such as it might be, to demonstrate that the planet is warming, the skeptics deserve everyone’s thanks.

Whistleblowers within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) complained last year that a major study by agency researcher Thomas Karl, refuting evidence of a pause in global warming, had been rushed to publication. The implication was that the study was coordinated with Obama administration officials to add to the urgency of the president’s climate change agenda in advance of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris. Republicans on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology issued a subpoena of records of NOAA communications dealing with the study.

The inquiry began afresh last month when Rep. Lamar Smith, wrote to NOAA expressing disappointment “with the slow pace and limited scope of the agency’s production [of such records],” which had yielded only 301 pages. Mr. Smith directed officials to broaden their search for relevant documents. 

He said the committee had received a letter signed by 325 scientists, engineers, economists and other scholars questioning whether the agency had properly peer-reviewed the “quality, objectivity, utility and integrity” of the data used in the Karl study.

Data consist of facts, and facts can be cherry-picked to yield a desired effect. In the NOAA study, researchers found that ocean temperatures measured by ships were warmer than those recorded by buoys anchored in place, and scientists “developed a method to correct the difference between ship and buoy measurements.” Ship’s engines, however, can heat nearby water and produce false readings. By including those values, critics contend, the agency may have effectively erased evidence of the global warming pause.

President Obama’s efforts to “re-engineer” the American energy industry is based on the argument that combustion of fossil fuels endangers the planet, and a rapid transition to renewable power sources is essential. The argument was the basis for the Paris climate change agreement, endorsed by nearly 200 nations. 

If documents were to emerge suggesting temperature data was doctored to reach an expedient conclusion in the NOAA study, and if White House officials were part of such a scheme, that would be proof that science had been recruited to serve politics. Trust in government would be further eroded.

This would not be the first instance of Obama-era back-channel scheming. 

Republican members of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee issued a report last summer accusing the Environmental Protection Agency of colluding with the Natural Resources Defense Council and other “green” organizations to develop the president’s landmark Clean Power Plan, which will saddle Americans with billions of dollars in higher energy bills for decades to come. EPA officials quietly schemed with environmentalists to write regulations reinforcing their shared climate change agenda. The agency has denied the accusations.

Science must be free from pressure to validate political goals. If findings and measurements are altered to serve a political agenda, the findings are flawed. 

It’s called fraud, and should be punished.

Naughty scientists are in need of Grace.  And by the Lord Harry (no relation to Sir Christopher, the Lord Monkton) we certainly shifted our share that night. Just to keep warm, you understand.

Taking Manhood from Men.

The chap in yesterday, the Policeman, is a Man. He told of his manly concern for his society and it was sadness itself. But heroic. He is persisting against the dark forces that are destroying our society and our culture. He was doing his best. There are wider aspects too that needed to be discussed and some newcomers to the Tavern were eager to bring it on. So we will continue, as we did, into the night, the darkness.

Talk in the bars have often touched on manliness amongst other matters, including our 'scientific' world and the scourge of  the middle eastern satanic spread. We look again at the first two; the first here and the second in a later post.

Manliness was relatively easy back in my younger day. Society may well have been rougher, indeed as described by Hobbes, 'violent, nasty, brutish and short' quite often, but at least it acknowledged that my Supplier had made them, Man and Woman, in His image and likeness. Women were women, be they wenches, milkmaids, tiny tots with daisies in their hair or Ladies:  Men were farmboys, monks, stonemasons or knights and a variety of other callings too. Some were 'Good' people: some were not. But things have changed quite recently.

He opened with what one can easily see as problematic. The unelected Mrs interfering busy-body Obama gets mass-media airhead time with a high-priestess of cant and nonsense that deliberately aims to lead people astray. The bad women rule.  Men 'need to be better' eh? 

Of course, but we do not need to be told by women who are complete failures in every aspect of their lives and womanhood with the single exception of reefing vast sums of money from the efforts of Men.

Western civilization is clearly coming part at the seams. 

There are so many destructive elements at work, they are almost impossible to list. But one of the most destructive of these elements, incited by a punitive feminist ideology, is the relentless campaign to delegitimize the very idea of manhood. And the most effective way to do that is to impugn male sexuality.

We are told constantly that we live in a virtual rape culture, a culture in which rape is widespread and condoned, victims are blamed, and rapists receive little or no punishment. 

There are rape cultures in the world. If one wants to see one in action, all one need do is look at the Muslim world or at Muslim enclaves and populations that have burrowed into Western nations, where atrocities and scandals continue to multiply. In the Western world, by contrast, rape and other forms of sexual misconduct—even mere allegations of sexual misconduct—are universally condemned and harshly punished.

And when a chap wants to offer an alternative view from the feminist paradigm, what happens?  ANOTHER freakin' woman elevated well beyond the design of her corsets to manage comes along to say 'Shut Up'.

No matter. Islamic culture gets a free pass while Western culture is said to be ravaged by gynophobia under the reign of male supremacism. 

In the new sexual paradigm that has clamped succubus-like upon the culture, the heterosexual male mainstream is under attack for the crime of harboring a normal sexual drive, which must be ruthlessly expunged in an offensive characterized by media propaganda, legislative bias and institutional practices. 

Respectable-seeming websites promote the total reform of masculinity using terms such as “mascupathy” to define masculine traits such as aggression and competitiveness as forms of disease needing to be cured. 

Western men are being progressively demasculanized, 

a deficiency which results, as Andrew Klavan argues, in “tremulous feminists who hysterically fear rape culture on college campuses where it is not, and Western leaders who don’t dare to see the rape culture inherent in invading Islam, where it is.”

The signs of anti-male bias are everywhere we look. 

The university, for example, has become a veritable minefield for male students, who may at any time be hauled before an administrative tribunal and their careers put in jeopardy for sexual misconduct, however trivial or ambiguous. 

A recent memo from my wife’s university mandates a statement against “sexual violence” in all course syllabi —mind you, nothing against harassing and lying about one’s professor for a better grade, shutting down conservative, Zionist, pro-Life or anti-feminist speakers, perpetrating racist hoaxes, denouncing the teaching of good English and male authors as forms of “microagression,” or any of the other violations of civil conduct that we have witnessed on university campuses recently. 

The only sexist harassment that takes place regularly in academia is feminist harassment of male students and staff—but that is considered not intimidation but enlightened practice.

Is it any wonder, then, that even our military is being insidiously weakened?

Responding to a vehement attack on supposed martial dishonor by a former Supreme Court justice, it has turned from its primary task of defending the country to counseling its soldiers against what it regards as sexual delinquency by issuing wallet cards listing “inappropriate behaviors.” These include “sexual assault, sexual interference, sexual exploitation, offensive sexual remarks or unacceptable language or jokes, unwelcome requests of a sexual nature or verbal abuse of a sexual nature, voyeurism, indecent acts and publishing intimate images of a person without their consent.” 

Could not make it as a man amongst Men

The fact is, most men in the civilized West are not sexual predators or unreconstructed brutes but most men do tend to joke and flirt and make off-color remarks and otherwise show an interest in women, whether sexual or romantic, in virtue of being men. 

More to the point, if men are no longer permitted to be men, how then can they be soldiers?

When manliness is eliminated from a culture fixated on the supposedly corrupt and vicious nature of masculinity, while armies of apologetic White Knights and self-abnegating feminist allies (aka “manginas”) come to replace a diminishing platoon of alpha males—“We live in a world run by betas and their lady friends,” quips J.R. Dunn in a prescient article for American Thinker—the writing is on the wall. As Michael Ignatieff reminded us in The Lesser Evil, a culture, a nation or a civilization cannot expect to survive if it is defended by herbivores. It needs a Praetorian cohort of carnivores, determined men proud of their masculinity and unafraid to confront the enemies outside the gates as well as the fifth columnists, defeatists and appeasers within—i.e., politicians on both sides of the aisle, spineless university administrators, media abettors, tergiversating liberals, tenured academics who indoctrinate from the left rather than educate from the tradition of reputable scholarship, and the feminist Furies acting out their faux version of Lysistrata—if a culture is not only to survive but to flourish.

The feminist hordes in their anti-male animus, along with their Beta and Delta collaborators, 

have overrun a once-great and hardy civilization. 

As Klavan puts it, “The future goes where men go and does what men make it do. If men go down the drain, the future will follow.”

Furies. Recognise anyone?

The expression of male sexual desire in Western culture is hedged by rules of appropriate conduct and a code of chivalry, occasionally honored in the breach, yet relatively intact. But when male sexuality in its natural manifestations is regarded as an evil that must be controlled, reviled, prosecuted and ultimately bred out of men, 

societal collapse is inevitable. 

The irony is palpable. For a culture that targets men can neither defend nor reproduce itself and its days are numbered.

We have spoken of being Gentlemen recently, and of being Warriors. We look to being Saints.

But we are growing further and further away from the Image and Likeness.

Both Men and Women.

Mature, adult Men and Women are becoming scarce.

Up with this we must not put.

Men must act as men. His alliegence is to God, first, not  a faux-feminised 'public' with its emasculating Laws and bossy women.  Or bossy men in Thrall, either. Not to a 'society' that will steal his cuture, his integrity, his dignity, the fruits of his labours and his manhood.

He must be free to offer those to God, in Gratitude.

He must be prepared to lose it all - or no part of it.

Drink deep. Think. Use your logic.

Black Lies Matter.

Songs are sung of the hero. Ale is quaffed and the tales are told. And the same songs and same tales go down through the ages, but they are of a very small minority and not because the hero is rare. An event may catapult a man - and sometimes a woman - into the Status, often when he is faced with overwhelming odds stacked against his very survival and he acts in an extraordinary manner. He 'stands out'. But there is another sort, less noticed.

The majority are unsung. They are the men who bear a burden day after day. Their courage is not of an extraordinary moment but of a persistent, often grinding sort. His fortitude marks him. He becomes discouraged but soldiers on.

The Chatelaine Lady of the Tavern, the Southern Gal brought one such unknown man, an American, into the bar for a well earned Ale and we heard his tale. We let him, Jay Stalien, tell it as we sat almost dumbstruck by his clarity and courage.

I have come to realize something that is still hard for me to understand to this day. The following may be a shock to some coming from an African American, but the mere fact that it may be shocking to some is prima facie evidence of the sad state of affairs that we are in as Humans.

I used to be so torn inside growing up. Here I am, a young African-American born and raised in Brooklyn, NY wanting to be a cop. 

I watched and lived through the crime that took place in the hood. My own black people killing others over nothing. Crack heads and heroin addicts lined the lobby of my building as I shuffled around them to make my way to our 1 bedroom apartment with 6 of us living inside. I used to be woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of gun fire, only to look outside and see that it was 2 African Americans shooting at each other.

It never sat right with me. 

I wanted to help my community and stop watching the blood of African Americans spilled on the street at the hands of a fellow black man. 

I became a cop because black lives in my community, along with ALL lives, mattered to me, 

............and I wanted to help stop the bloodshed.

As time went by in my law enforcement career, I quickly began to realize something. I remember the countless times I stood 2 inches from a young black man, around my age, laying on his back, gasping for air as blood filled his lungs. 

I remember them bleeding profusely with the unforgettable smell of deoxygenated dark red blood in the air, as it leaked from the bullet holes in his body on to the hot sidewalk on a summer day. 

I remember the countless family members who attacked me, spit on me, cursed me out, as I put up crime scene tape to cordon off the crime scene, yelling and screaming out of pain and anger at the sight of their loved ones taking their last breath. 

I never took it personally, I knew they were hurting. 

I remember the countless times I had to order new uniforms, because the ones I had on, were bloody from the blood of another black victim…of black on black crime. 

I remember the countless times I got back in my patrol car, distraught after having watched another black male die in front me, having to start my preliminary report something like this:

Suspect- Black/ Male, 

Victim-Black /Male.

I remember the countless times I canvassed the area afterwards, and asked everyone “did you see who did it”, and the popular response from the very same family members was always, “Fuck the Police, I ain't no snitch, Im gonna take care of this myself". 

This happened every single time, every single homicide, black on black, and then my realization became clearer.

I woke up every morning, put my freshly pressed uniform on, shined my badge, functioned checked my weapon, kissed my wife and kid, and waited for my wife to say the same thing she always does before I leave, “Make sure you come back home to us”. I always replied, “I will”, but the truth was I was never sure if I would. 

I almost lost my life on this job, and every call, every stop, every moment that I had this uniform on, was another possibility for me to almost lose my life again. I was a target in the very community I swore to protect, the very community I wanted to help. 

As a matter of fact, they hated my very presence. They called me “Uncle Tom”, and “wanna be white boy”, and I couldn’t understand why. My own fellow black men and women attacking me, wishing for my death, wishing for the death of my family. I was so confused, so torn, I couldn’t understand why my own black people would turn against me, when every time they called …I was there. Every time someone died….I was there. Every time they were going through one of the worst moments in their lives…I was there. So why was I the enemy? I dove deep into that question…Why was I the enemy? 

Then my realization became clearer.

I spoke to members of the community and listened to some of the complaints as to why they hated cops. I then did research on the facts. I also presented facts to these members of the community, and listened to their complaints in response. This is what I learned:

Complaint: Police always targeting us, they always messing with the black man.

Fact: A city where the majority of citizens are black (Baltimore for example) …will ALWAYS have a higher rate of black people getting arrested, it will ALWAYS have a higher rate of blacks getting stopped, and will ALWAYS have a higher rate of blacks getting killed, and the reason why is because a city with those characteristics will ALWAYS have a higher rate of blacks committing crime. 

The statistics will follow the same trend for Asians if you go to China, for Hispanics if you go to Puerto Rico, for whites if you go to Russia, and the list goes on. It’s called Demographics

Complaint: More black people get arrested than white boys.

Fact: Black People commit a grossly disproportionate amount of crime. Data from the FBI shows that Nationwide, Blacks committed 5,173 homicides in 2014, whites committed 4,367. Chicago’s death toll is almost equal to that of both wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, combined. Chicago’s death toll from 2001–November, 26 2015 stands at 7,401. The combined total deaths during Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003-2015: 4,815) and Operation Enduring Freedom/Afghanistan (2001-2015: 3,506), total 8,321.

Complaint: Blacks are the only ones getting killed by police, or they are killed more.

Fact: As of July 2016, the breakdown of the number of US Citizens killed by Police this year is, 

238 White people killed, 

123 Black people killed, 

79 Hispanics, 

69 other/or unknown race.

Fact: Black people kill more other blacks than Police do, and there are only protest and outrage when a cop kills a black man. University of Toledo criminologist Dr. Richard R. Johnson examined the latest crime data from the FBI’s Supplementary Homicide Reports and Centers for Disease Control and found that an average of 4,472 black men were killed by other black men annually between Jan. 1, 2009, and Dec. 31, 2012. Professor Johnson’s research further concluded that 112 black men died from both justified and unjustified police-involved killings annually during this same period.

Complaint: Well we already doing a good job of killing ourselves, we don’t need the Police to do it. Besides they should know better.

The more I listened, the more I realized. The more I researched, the more I realized. I would ask questions, and would only get .......

emotional responses & inferences based on no facts at all. 

The more killing I saw, the more tragedy, the more savagery, the more violence, the more loss of life of a black man at the hands of another black man….the more I realized. 

I haven’t slept well in the past few nights. Heartbreak weighs me down, rage flows through my veins, and tears fills my eyes. I watched my fellow officers assassinated on live television, and the images of them laying on the ground are seared into my brain forever. 

I couldn’t help but wonder if it had been me, a black man, a black cop, on TV, assassinated, laying on the ground dead,..would my friends and family still think black lives mattered? 

Would my life have mattered? Would they make t-shirts in remembrance of me? Would they go on tv and protest violence? Would they even make a Facebook post, or share a post in reference to my death? 

All of my realizations came to this conclusion. 

Black Lives do not matter to most black people. 

Only the lives that make the national news matter to them. Only the lives that are taken at the hands of cops or white people, matter. The other thousands of lives lost, the other black souls that I along with every cop, have seen taken at the hands of other blacks, do not matter. 

Their deaths are unnoticed, accepted as the “norm”, and swept underneath the rug by the very people who claim and post “black lives matter”. 

I realized that this country is full of ignorance, where an educated individual will watch the ratings-driven news media, and watch a couple YouTube video clips, and then come to the conclusion that they have all the knowledge they need to have in order to know what it feels like to have a bullet proof vest as part of your office equipment, “Stay Alive” as part of your daily to do list, and having insurance for your health insurance because of the high rate of death in your profession. 

They watch a couple videos and then they magically know in 2 minutes 35 seconds, how you are supposed to handle a violent encounter, which took you 6 months of Academy training, 2 – 3 months of field training, and countless years of blood, sweat, tears and broken bones experiencing violent encounters and fine tuning your execution of the Use of Force Continuum. 

I realized that there are even cops, COPS, duly sworn law enforcement officers, who are supposed to be decent investigators, who will publicly go on the media and call other white cops racist and KKK, based on a video clip that they watched thousands of miles away, which was filmed after the fact, based on a case where the details aren’t even known yet and the investigation hasn’t even begun. 

I realized that most in the African American community refuse to look at solving the bigger problem that I see and deal with every day, which is black on black crime taking hundreds of innocent black lives each year, and instead focus on the 9 questionable deaths of black men, where some were in the act of committing crimes. 

I realized that they value the life of a Sex Offender and Convicted Felon, [who was in the act of committing multiple felonies: felon in possession of a firearm-FELONY, brandishing and threatening a homeless man with a gun-Aggravated Assault in Florida: FELONY, who resisted officers who first tried to taze him, and WAS NOT RESTRAINED, who can be clearly seen in one of the videos raising his right shoulder, then shooting it down towards the right side of his body exactly where the firearm was located and recovered] more than the lives of the innocent cops who were assassinated in Dallas protecting the very people that hated them the most. 

I realized that they refuse to believe that most cops acknowledge that there are Bad cops who should have never been given a badge & gun, who are chicken shit and will shoot a cockroach if it crawls at them too fast, who never worked in the hood and may be intimidated. 

That most cops dread the thought of having to shoot someone, and never see the turmoil and mental anguish that a cop goes through after having to kill someone to save his own life. 

Instead they believe that we are all blood thirsty killers, because the media says so, even though the 

numbers prove otherwise. 

I realize that they truly feel as if the death of cops will help people realize the false narrative that Black Lives Matter, when all it will do is take their movement two steps backwards and label them domestic terrorist. 

I realized that some of these people, who say Black Lives Matter, are full of hate and racism. Hate for cops, because of the false narrative that more black people are targeted and killed. Racism against white people, for a tragedy that began 100’s of years ago, when most of the white people today weren’t even born yet. 

I realized that some in the African American community’s idea of “Justice” is the prosecution of ANY and EVERY cop or white man that kills or is believed to have killed a black man, no matter what the circumstances are. 

I realized the African American community refuses to look within to solve its major issues, and instead makes excuses and looks outside for solutions. I realized that a lot of people in the African American community lead with hate, instead of love. Division instead of Unity. Turmoil and rioting, instead of Peace. 

I realized that they have become the very entity that they claim they are fighting against. 

I realized that the very reasons I became a cop, are the very reasons my own people hate me, and now in this toxic hateful racially charged political climate, I am now more likely to die,... and it is still hard for me to understand…. to this day.

Silence. 

What can a chap say?

Chicago Activist: We Need to Abolish the Police, Period.

On Monday night, a black community worker from Chicago openly advocated the abolition of the police force across America. She argued that the institution began with slavery in America and needs to be scrapped entirely.

"Here's the solution, we need to abolish the police, period," declared Jessica Disu on Fox News' "The Kelly File." Her suggestion got an immediate groan. "De-militarize the police, disarm the police, we need to come up with community solutions for transformative justice."

Disu was one member of a large "focus group" assembled by Fox News to address the shootings in Dallas, Texas last Thursday. As the Chicago community organizer spoke, other members of the group tried to interrupt. The host, Megyn Kelly, insisted the others allow Disu to speak.

Flustered, the Chicago activist declared, "I have a point here, I've been peaceful since I came here, but I need to speak." Her suggestion that being peaceful is not to be taken for granted echoed the Black Lives Matter mantra, "No justice, no peace." Nevertheless, she was indeed civil.

"We can all agree that a loss of a life is tragic. We call can agree that excessive force and extra-judicial killings by law enforcement needs to be stopped," Disu added.

Kelly then asked a pertinent question -- "Who will protect the community if we abolish the police?"

Again, Disu only had vague flowery words in response -- "We need to come up with community solutions," she said.
