The moral aspect of his teachings are to lead us to an ordered society. The metaphysical aspects of his teachings are more important but also more difficult to understand and lead to a deeper understanding of how the world works. I like actual diversity, where different countries have different cultures. I'd hate to see China westernised. I think western civilisation is great, for the West. The East should have eastern civilisation. They have their own religious traditions.

And given the current state of western civilisation the Chinese would be wise to avoid unnecessary contact with western culture.dfordoomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02306293859869179118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-776872662073607566.post-72762520079756159912017-12-12T20:10:28.773+11:002017-12-12T20:10:28.773+11:00Underpin, more likely. This was happening as far back as the 19th century. Liberalism, atheism, socialism, even occultism, were fashionable beliefs. They marked you out as being up-to-date and educated and in touch with the thought of the intellectual and cultural elites.

The supreme irony is that Christianity responded by trying to be fashionable, and only made itself look even more unfashionable. Do you remember Christian rock? I still shudder at the memory.

I think the biggest mistake Christianity made was that its efforts to look fashionable made it look weak and vacillating and uncertain and generally pathetic. These efforts made Christianity look like a religion for losers.

A strong religion doesn't worry too much about the vagaries of fashion. If you stand firm you'll at least get grudging respect and eventually the winds of fashion shift again and you're back in business. But the existing Christian churches have made themselves look too weak and ineffectual and are unlikely ever again to come back into fashion.

Rationality doesn't come into it. People are not rational beings by and large. They believe whatever makes them feel good.dfordoomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02306293859869179118noreply@blogger.com
