Christ, Frank. What were you thinking?

"Eet 'as been an 'eck of week, King Amfortas", he said, as he slumped over a pint in the almost-ready Italian Room.  I am not yet sure about having a room for Italians, let alone Argentinians who try to speak Italian and then get reported to the Editor for translating his fractured speech into even worse English. So I was at a loss to say much of use to Francis when he dropped by.

I can understand the problem and the frustration in being mis-reported but how do you mis-report missing words. Especially the Word.

"Frank", I said, "you didn't even say 'Christ', or 'Jesus'. All that way to the USA and you forgot the main point?? "

"You 'ava to unnnerstan", he replied, "Eet is sommon else who writes ma speeches an' they have to runna themma pasta de boys in da back room. Da onesa with da Blue Pencil". I nodded. Been there ; had that done. "Taka that leetle girl who stoppeda the motor car. She 'as been waiting for a year sinsa de White House mano found justa da righta aged  illegal immigrant".

"Frank, you are the Pope. You are the Man in the Chair. Off to Confession with you, sir"

Now I could do as everyone else and his dog has done and continues to do, and dissect the reports of who said what and when. But why not go to the almost disappointing speeches themselves, remembering da boys in da backa room.

I shall spend a couple of posts on the Papal visit to America as it is likely to be a very important Historical moment. But do not expect much in the way of cogent critique from a knackered  old Knight. I shall leave it to you to Judge for yourselves, dependant as that will be on your patience and attention.

So here let us listen to the actual speech, un-transmorgrified by reporters.

As my friend Maryse Usher said :
"Pope Francis addresses both houses of U.S. Congress, a first in history. This man is seriously contemplative. " The Pope of the Holy See" as he was so quaintly announced, had his audience in raptures... equally Democrats and Republicans, but at different times! (according to each side's predilections).
The "Sweet Christ on Earth" (as St Catherine of Siena described the pope) has a gargantuan task. I think he pulled it off magnificently, given the constraints of the context and the fragile condition of the American legislature.
It was strange that he was hustled out afterwards without being able to mingle with the audience... Thank God the Obamas were absent.Their great loss.
It was as though Papa Francesco gently, sensitively and charitably, appealed to every person in the room and in the nation, to unite in justice, compassion and hope, to lift their country out of the miserable morass into which a false ideology has plunged it.
Vatican and papal diplomacy at its best!
I am not a great diplomat m'self, but thank goodness for Charity, I say. Maryse shows it.

Make of it as you will.

I hope you stuck with it and paid attention.

Frank's speaking style takes some work on your part.

Please try to see and hear what Maryse sees and hears.

(Perhaps ignore all the clapping and hypocrisy from the crowd)

Let me know !!

Personally, given my ways, I had hoped he would come in with a sword, breathing some fire. At the very least tip over a few tables and whack a few folk with a knotted rope.

A horse would have been nice too, especially one to match his white robe.

But no. And no mention, specifically of the Murder of Babies. I was waiting to "Suffer the little Children' passage but it never came.

He nearly got there but was diverted by the very few 'Death Row' criminals. It was almost a parody.

There are more speeches to come though.

Fingers crossed.

Fr Z. made a few observations about what and how things may not be reported.

10 less than perfectly reported points about Pope Francis’ US trip
I direct the readership’s attention to a helpful contribution from Acton Institute (which you should share with as many as possible in order to provoke MS Fishwrap into a case of the vapors).
I won’t share the whole thing. Go there to find all of it.
10 Stories The Media Won’t Tell You About The Pope’s USA Visit.
1. POPE ADMONISHES OBAMA FOR ATTACKS ON RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
2. POPE ADMONISHES CONGRESS FOR POLITICAL GRIDLOCK
3. POPE CELEBRATES THE AMERICAN DREAM
The waterworks started early for House Speaker John Boehner, when Pope Francis opened his congressional address with a greeting to “the land of the free and home of the brave.”
4. POPE DENOUNCES GOVERNMENT OVERREACH
In his speech before Congress, the pope [or his speech writer] demonstrated a nuanced understanding of liberty when he suggested that all freedoms are related, and the decline of any of these results in the deterioration of them all.
5. POPE PRAISES AMERICAN FEDERALISM
Unless you are Catholic, you might have missed Pope Francis’s repeated use of the term “subsidiarity”.
6. POPE AFFIRMS MERITS OF THE FREE MARKET
No, this is not the great Onion headline about the power of Oreo cookies.
7. POPE EQUATES PLANNED PARENTHOOD TO STATE-SPONSORED EXECUTION
Some pro-lifers are probably dissatisfied with Pope Francis’s comments about the sacredness of life during the congressional address. Although he did affirm his staunch pro-life position when he exhorted Americans to “protect and defend life at every stage of its development,” he immediately shifted the focus to capital punishment. Note that Pope Francis effectively equated abortion to state-sponsored execution, which is covert way to reaffirm his pro-life views.. If there is any question as to his position on abortion, just read his remarks to the U.S. bishops yesterday.
8. POPE ENCOURAGES OBAMACARE OPPONENTS
Pope Francis visited the Little Sisters of the Poor, demonstrating his solidarity with one of the foremost opponents of Obamacare’s U.S. Department of Health and Human Services mandate that all employers buy contraception for employees, even those that work as abortifacients.
9. POPE CALLS FOR HONEST DEBATE ON CLIMATE CHANGE
10. POPE LAMENTS REDEFINITION OF MARRIAGE
Pope Francis concluded his congressional address by grieving the loss of traditional family values. In no uncertain terms he declared that human flourishing would be diminished because of the redefinition of the family: “Fundamental relationships are being called into question, as is the very basis of marriage and the family. I can only reiterate the importance and, above all, the richness and the beauty of family life.”
Pope Francis’s pastoral sensibility and gentle demeanor continue to make him one of the most popular figures in the world. It ought to be the hope of many Christians and conservatives that this popularity encourages his admirers—many of whom are leftists or openly skeptical of religion—to reexamine the moral foundations of the man for whom they have such regard. I think they might find a new appreciation for traditional, Christian orthodoxy.

Mind you, Jeff Miller had a few things to say too, and praising diplomacy did not rate highly:
Wait till your Father gets home!

There is the semifamous American phrase “Wait til your Father gets home!” This phrase was suppose to be invoked by the mother after a rough day with the kids. Implying that the kids were going to “get it” when the Father found out about what they had been doing during the day.
Hmmmmm. I thought it was 'common Anglophile mother'.
What reminded me of phrase is the Pope’s visit to the United States. Apparently we think of the Pope in just this light. That when he visits we want him to deliver the comeuppance for all the wrong doing.
To be the militant scold like a prophet of old. That he should be grimacing when photographed with politicians who are at odds with the Catholic faith. That whatever are most important topic is should be on the lips on the Pope at every opportunity. We don’t want the Pope to be a diplomat, but somebody as brash as Patton.
I say this especially as I find myself guilty of this. Pouring through his speeches to look to see if his priorities align with my own narrative. Not listening to the Pope, but playing doctrinal bingo trying to fill my card. It is as if I suspect that people have no idea what the Church teaches so if the Pope doesn’t forcefully speak about something no one will know. The problem is not that people don’t know what the Church teaches in general, but the why behind it.

It is oh so easy to be hypercritical regarding the Pope’s visit and to see everything as a series of “might of beens.”
Here we go ! Talking of the Tavern Keeper there.
If only the Pope had said this. So many Catholics loved when Blessed Mother Teresa was not shy at all on abortion at the National Prayer Breakfast with the Clintons.
Yet even a loving rebuke did not affect any change in behavior regarding abortion by Bill or Hillary Clinton.
It seems obvious to me that Pope Francis is following St. Francis de Sales when the Saint wrote “You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.”

So I am fighting against my own tendencies in that I want clear forceful rhetoric. A “Wait til your Holy Father gets home.” That politicians get a rhetorical pummeling.
As even the casual reader of this blog might know I have a great fondness for the writings of SF author and convert John C. Wright. For his blog posts excoriating political correctness and progressive ideology. Yet I love him even more for his clear-eyed sanity.
I thought my readers ( And the Tavern Keeper's) might also be interested, as this Pope seems to have stirred up more controversy among the lazy and chattering crickets of the press corps than any Pope since World War Two.
My reaction is one of delight. I believe the Holy Spirit Himself must have prompted Pope Benedict to retire, something that has not been done in centuries, to make way for this next man.
Now, let me explain one thing: my opinion of Pope Francis is not based on the newspaper reports. I am a newspaperman and newspaper editor from way back, and I know how the press works, and I do not trust them.
The lazy and dishonest mainstream press has decided to portray the Holy Father as some sort of Leftist reformer or Marxist revolutionary, and, to my intense disgust, the lazier elements of the rightwing alternate press has followed suit.
The first dozen or so times the press quoted something that sounded extraordinary, and I took the time to trace the comment back to its original source, I found that, in context, the Holy Father’s comment was entirely orthodox, and entirely in keeping with the traditional teaching of the Mother Church since time immemorial.
It happened over and over again. Reading about the support of His Holiness for the Global Warming fraud, or his Marxist disdain for capitalism, I looked up the original document or original report, only to see some utterly orthodox Christian teaching on stewardship of God’s gift of the Earth to Man, or Christian warnings against wealth and worldliness as old as Moses.
And after a dozen times, my openmindedness creaked shut: I now simply dismiss, sight unseen, any such extraordinary quotes.
Perhaps the Pope in his private opinions leans more to the Left than the average American. I care not. The Church has, in history, blossomed under the Emperors of Rome and Byzantium, who were elected by the army; under sacred kingship, under parliaments, under republics, and even under the tyranny of the Turks.
The Church has also opposed all these things because She opposes the world.
The Church will be here long after America sinks under the weight of our own corruption, long after the collapse of the North American Federation which comes next, or the Co-Dominium World-State, or the Long Night, or the Instrumentality of Man or the whatever comes after that.

I dare say that the Church will still be here, and her teaching will be remembered, unchanged, as a magician once said of the unicorn, “she will remember them all when men are fairy tales in books written by rabbits.”
Therefore I dismiss and despise the press-created image of the Pope as an illusion, as gossip, as nonsense.
Why the Good Lord has decided to arrange to have the press, our natural enemy and the enemy of the faith, be charmed and pleased by this Pope, I have no idea. God’s ways are not our ways. What shall come of it, not even the wise can foresee.

To that I say amen.
In a related post today he wrote:
The Pope, as all Popes and bishops before him since the time out of mind, repeats the Christian teachings on mercy, eschewing greed, and being proper stewards of the Earth. The Catholic social teaching has been explicit for a century, and implicit from eternity.
If Francis gives greater emphasis to what seem to American conservatives to what are typically Leftwing topics, this is a call to stir you out of your self regard, and to realize that the socialists stole and perverted the concepts of altruism and service to the poor, not to mention stewardship of the environment.
The Dark Lord does not create, he only corrupts.
( The Curt Jester blog is written by Jeff Miller a former atheist who after spending forty years in the wilderness finds himself with both astonishment and joy a member of the Catholic Church. )

That is more like it, Sir.

Things you didn't ought to be doing, but......

.... yes, they do it anyway.

On the patio today, watching chaps do things with aircraft that no-one ought to be doing. In fact, some of the things just cannot be done. Impossible.  Yet......

We were astonished and most impressed.

But do not for one second think that 'Crazy Ivan' is on your side.

Keep the peace, or else.....

Enjoy the fine Ale while you can.

Whispers from the Crypt #6

Through the Ale pipes and up from the depths of the cellars and the Crypt came the whispered warnings.

Take heed.
"No wonder the relationship between the sexes and the hard-won morality attending such congress was one of the focal points of the attack by the Frankfurt School and their fellow travellers in politics, academe, and the media. The “transgressive” assault on Western culture had to start somewhere, and it started with the idea of the nuclear family.
The first step was to mock it (in the 1960s and ’70s, the idealized “Father Knows Best” and “Leave It to Beaver” worlds of the pre-hippie era came in for particular scorn), then to accuse it of various crimes against humanity (particularly the newfound charge of “patriarchy”), then to illustrate that there were “really” other sorts of families, just as good, just as loving, just as valid at the traditional two-parent opposite-sex nest.
Finally, the nuclear family was simply dispensed with altogether, as behavior considered acceptable in the underclass, where sexual license had always just barely been suppressed, percolated up into the higher culture. The morals of those with nothing to lose and everything to gain from a dysfunctional social-welfare system bubbled upward from the black and white underclasses into the middle classes, who had been induced to feel guilty on behalf of the “underprivileged.” And those considered “marginal” or “disadvantaged” longer bore any responsibility for their
destructive personal choices and behaviour.
It is no accident that the new social acceptance of out-of-wedlock pregnancies coincided with the rise of both bastardy and the abortion culture, the growing demand for contraception, and, later on, gay rights.
Once Pandora’s Box was opened, all sort of things flew out, some of them at first seemingly contradictory, but all related by the very fact of their confinement in the Box.
The Box had stayed closed for a reason, but under pressure from Critical Theory, it had to be opened."

Dr Who, the Bigamist

The most popular Sci-Fi personage that has ever been has to be Dr Who. No doubts in many folk's minds about that, although he himself may well have come across more popular ones in his travels forward in time and we have just not been told about them.

No selfie-Spoilers, see!

But what we do know of his convoluted and very long life ( apparantly almost as old as the Tavern Keeper m'self) is that he likes the ladies, especially youthful ones. He is rarely seen out without one.

Yet he is also a MGTOW. !  Almost. He goes his own way, hither and whence, with wench.

I have to say that his current wench is quite a good looking gal, the lovely Clara.......

Although it has to be said that I am a Knight who likes a pretty face, and I was (still am) rather partial to Rose, too.

Rose could have had me if she'd played her cards aright. But, that's for another time.

But to the Doc. Despite all the lovelies with whom he surrounds himself, the Dr. is a Married man !

Isn't he?

Hmmmmm

Apparantly the argument rages, quietly but insistently in the UK Room in the Tavern.

Let us momentarily consider if he is a man at all. He's an alien, shirley?  Do Human Marriage rules apply?  Can different species hit it off? I mean, more than simply 'fancy'?

Deep questions.

He married Professor River Song, a lady of mature years, unlike his changeable 'ahem'... companions. Didn't he?

River was a smart gal and had as much experience of time travel and adventure as he himself. A Match Made In Gallifrey one might think.

Personally I think they made a fine couple.

But what about Queen Elizabeth the First?

He married her too, didn't he?

OK, she forced him into it - a shotpike wedding - but technically even though she is long gone, he isn't, so he really should still be the King of England.

Don't blame me for you all scratching your heads and backsides. Blame Kate Edwards. It was she talking in the bar.
One of the bizarre plot moments in the Dr Who Fifty Year Special was a scene in which Doctor number ?10 (?11) (David Tennant) marries Elizabeth I
Now, as those who still follow the show will know, Doctor ?Eleven (?Twelve) (Matt Smith) married Dr River Song (Alex Kingston).
So is he a bigamist?
Is his marriage with River Song invalid?
Marriage is of course dissolved by the death of either partner.  But if you are a Time Lord equipped with a TARDIS, the death of your human partner means rather less than it usually does, since you can visit them at any point in their lifetime without the need to maintain chronological order in such meetings.
In fact, the Doctor and River Song's encounters, you may recall, mostly seemed to occur backwards from her perspective (the first time they meet from his perspective is the last time from hers).
The solution to the problem presumably is that the two marriages take place between different versions of the Doctor.
But does Time Lord regeneration constitute death for this purpose?
I'm going to suggest that the answer is yes: his old body is destroyed after all, and the new one comes complete with a new personality.  And marriage is about bodies in the end, since no one is married in heaven...
I hope this sets you all off with deep thinkings and comments.

Yet another point is, if I recall, the wedding between the Dr and River was sleight of hand. The Dr was a simulation, as she discovered when she looked into his eye and saw him waving out!!

Crikey: sending simulants to do the job, and in another time marrying a Queen of a quite different species and then buggering off before it was consumated....

The Dr. is a Cad,
Whoever he is.

A drop by the room via the link will show how the conversation developed.

As a normal human being (I speak of you, not me) it is somewhat limiting to be confined to a few-score years and all following on in the same direction. But we have to acknowledge that it does make for fewer conundrums.

I need a drink.

I think I shall contemplate a Rose.

75th Anniversary.

Just a little late, by a few days. But it cannot be let pass without acknowledgement.

Arguably the largest and most critical air battle in history, the

Battle of Britain

will ever remain in the minds and hearts of Treuwe Englishmen.

It was 75 years ago on September 15th that the end came, and Victory, after the 'Hardest Day' of fighting that 'The Few' had to do. The survival of Great Britain was at stake. Had this great battle not been won the modern world would be very different today.

Here are some sights and sounds of the 16 Spitfires that gathered at the famous Biggin Hill airfield the other day.

But for a really special moment, this last will part your hair.

'Scuse the language. I think he was trying to express what the German pilots very probably said.

What's in the Water?

Trigger Warning.

This post discusses matters that may make some people uncomfortable.

The world is going mad. We all know that. Well, all right-thinking people know that.  OK, someone in the Tavern said so. And they actually put their finger on the cause.

Its what is in the water.

It is common knowledge that 'people' are putting 'stuff' in our water. Well, there are many who say so. Right-thinking people. And we are getting wind of it. Exposure of the dangers is happening now. At last.

Chemicals.

Many are  insidious and dangerous.

They can cause death and even addiction ! Even amongst the fit and healthy.

Chemicals usage can be deceptive.

And possibly the most common and most 'secret' chemical in our water is now being talked about; demands are being made to ban it. High time, say many people. OK, some people. OK, left thinking people. On the news in fact.

DHMO.

Fortunately and despite the glaring fact that authorities are behind it, authorities themselves are even warning us about DHMO.

A lady (I say that from politeness) in America who organises an annual fun day in her neighbourhood, ran afoul of using the stuff recently. The Cops were called out.
The day was August 26 and Tammy Hall had just wrapped up one of the annual water fights she hosts in her Bluff Heights neighborhood. There were hundreds of water balloons, super soakers and kiddie pool refill stations that fueled the ranks of the nearly 20 participants. Signs were posted all around her home at the corner of Temple and Third, advising that a water war pitting adults versus children was scheduled for noon.

One sign that Hall hastily authored with a red Sharpie marker read, “Sometime around midday, Temple & 3rd is declared a war zone. We will not care if you are unarmed. ☺ If you enter the area you may be exposed to large amounts of dihydrogen monoxide. It would be better if you came prepared. Safety third!!”
When the two Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) vehicles pulled up to her home, the sign was the furthest thing from Hall’s mind.

“We had anticipated that of course sometimes they shut these things down, so we ran over,” Hall said of the lemonade stand that her two daughters were operating.
“That’s when they informed me that there had been some sort of FBI terror alert that had just come out that morning around the same time that my sign was reported.”

Hall was detained for over two and half hours while the officers communicated over their radios, letting Hall know that while they were aware they were responding to a water fight “it was out of the LBPD’s hands."
Marlene Arrona, a spokesperson for the department, confirmed officers were dispatched to Hall’s neighborhood to investigate suspicious activity. She said a passerby who found a posted sign “alarming and a threat to the community” notified the LBPD and a threat investigation was conducted as part of the department’s investigation. Despite Hall's comments about the FBI, Arrona maintained the LBPD is the lead agency in the investigation.
Hall was cited for posting illegal signage under the Long Beach Municipal Code and later released, despite an ongoing investigation.
Hall, who has a scheduled court date at the end of the month regarding her citation, said the situation was both eye-opening and dumbfounding. In an age where most people have smartphones, she was of the opinion that it was ridiculous to think a person would get reported for a threatening sign that also contained a smiley face.
“If you see something that causes you some alarm you’d look into what you’re alarmed about, I would think,” Hall said. “Never in my wildest dreams did I think people would actually be scared. I thought actually it would be a good laugh.”
Hall is not the only one to run afoul of hydrophobia.
See, Mad.

But worse are some of those who want it banned . Petitions have been produced. People have signed up in droves.

These are NOT right-thinking people.

OK, so people are stupid. Well,  not right-thinking people. But there are a lot of dummies around. Lets continue just a bit.
In 2004, a proposed law that would’ve banned the use of foam cups in Aliso Viejo was placed on its city council agenda because the cups contained dihydrogen monoxide. Staff reports characterized the compound as a threat to health and safety before it was eventually pulled from the agenda because of “bad research."
A Canadian lawmaker tried to ban Dihydrogen Monoxide from all federal buildings in the country in 2010 because of its prevalence in toxic compounds and it being lethal if inhaled.
The politician, Andrew Scheer, went on to become Canada’s Speaker of the House of Commons.
Er..... hello !
Most recently, two Florida disc jockeys (DJs) were suspended from the air in 2013 after an April Fool's Day joke where they said on air that Dihydrogen Monoxide was coming out of Floridians’ taps and was not safe for consumption. The hoax caused concern among residents, resulting in numerous calls to water suppliers.

The lesson is clear.
You cannot be too careful.

Saving even ONE LIFE would make drinking only fine Ale in the Tavern worthwhile. Hey, its from the very best Supplier.

You know it makes sense.

Marriage: between a Rock and a Hard Place.

This must be the only pub around where a Russian lady Professor in an Irish College works behind the bar in the evenings. Its in the Irish Room in this fine Tavern from which little other than the sound of violins and jigs and raucous merriment is heard and barely a word of 'current affairs'.

Yet it gets crowded occasionally with 'Men's Rights' chaps who relax under her caring and watchful eyes. Damned fine eyes they are too, begorrah. The so-called 'misogynist' crowd, which includes the vociferous MGTOWs who eschew marriage and permanent relationships, get as good as they give, and usually with some sound sense intermingled with her humour as she pulls pints and stops fights breaking out. Yes, Russian gals can be charmers and well experienced in life, even when some Paddy accuses the fiddler of playing a bum note. She gets it sorted.

Svetlana rarely raises 'issues' with customers. They do that themselves. But she often has some useful things to say when matters get heated. She mentioned some points to me the other day as I did my daily wander through the bars checking that the suppies of fine ale were at hand.  Here, let her speak.
Marriage, Family and the MRM.
The discussion on traditional marriage between MRAs and feminists is something that always makes my eyes glaze over.
Yes, we often get feminists in the Tavern. I am quite happy to hear them when they behave themselves.
Actually it’s not a discussion as much as a slogan chanting competition between MRAs and feminists with hardly a shred of objectivity from either side.
“Marriage is slavery for women” scream the feminists.
“Marriage is exploitation of men” scream the MRAs in response.
The ones sitting quietly on the sidelines and laughing are the radical lesbian feminists who brought the war on marriage to the mainstream back in the 70s and 80s: The ones who know that the destruction of marriage and the traditional family separates men from women and fathers from children; and that’s all good as far as they’re concerned.
It is also why they pushed so hard to encourage and make acceptable, the hook-up culture that some on those forums around claim doesn’t exist: Just another little nail in the coffin of marriage and family.
Of course it has never occurred to these feminists that the cultures that are replacing the western ones will, not likely tolerate lesbianism, hook-up culture or any of the “anything goes,” instant gratification morality that they hold so dear;
but nobody ever accused feminists of being forward-thinkers.
Actually marriage for most of our history had a lot of advantages for both men and women, which is why it has been the longest lasting social success story in human history, and the bedrock of every successful human civilisation.
It still is; which is why western cultures are now dying out and being replaced by eastern and southern ones.
Feminists are also committed statists. No feminist of any standing has failed to remind her followers that welfare, single-motherhood and random hook-ups are the keys to happiness. All these things are inter-related and drivers of each-other, which is why feminism strongly approves of all three.
The fact that this culture is making women miserable and destroying the lives of children doesn’t seem to bother feminists in the least.
Of course men are also deeply hurt by this culture. MGTOWS, defiantly talking about “going their own way,” while not actually going anywhere, seem determined to ignore the fact that loneliness, human disconnect and alienation, are amongst the principle killers of men in peacetime. Men in long term family relationships are the least likely of all to suffer from stress related illness, mental afflictions or addiction problems. The same applies to women.
But at least feminists and MRAs finally agree on something; that marriage is broken, but what to do about it?
Oh I know. Let’s shout some more slogans and dream up all kinds of biologically and financially unworkable non-solutions instead of thinking of ways it could be fixed.
There are good marriages and bad marriages and mostly in-between marriages. We all know that. So first we need to look at the good marriages and see what they have that others don’t.
“I don’t need no man!”
“I’m going MGTOW!
Oh people! Who do you think you’re kidding?
The millions of men who fought their way through enemy fire, from Normandy beaches to the rubble of Stalingrad: from tropical islands and North African deserts to snowy steeps and Manchurian plains; did not fight for communism or capitalism or any other ism. Few could care less about red banners or stars and stripes or royal families or the Marseillaise.

They fought to survive and to hopefully win the right to a future where they could build their families in peace and security.
Now their societies sit and applaud while feminists / progressivists line up to spit on their graves.
Marriage right now is broken from a male perspective. Of that there is no doubt.
So instead of tearing our hair out and trying to shame men for eschewing marriage, why not ask why they are doing this and try to address the very real reasons behind it. This would be the best way to help not only men, but women and children and ultimately society too.
Firstly the “no fault divorce” rules need to go.
If marriage is a contract, then it should be binding, meaning that whoever breaks the terms of the contract should be the one to pay the price. If it is not a binding contract then it is completely pointless.
Secondly the doling out of ever increasing funds to single mothers needs to stop. It just encourages divorce, single mother-hood, general irresponsibility and welfare dependency and it is terribly bad for society.
Prenuptial agreements should be mandatory and legally binding.
Any tax breaks currently available to single mothers should be either transferred to married parents instead or just abolished altogether.
Shared custody of children in the case of divorce should be taken as the default, unless both parties agree otherwise or one parent is proven to be unsuitable.
That brings us to the biggest challenge of all. The courts must be completely overhauled and the whole “all men are guilty by default” culture needs to be eradicated. Mothers are just as often unsuitable as fathers and that needs to be accepted.
The state needs to recognise that traditional marriage, not welfare, is the bedrock of society.
It needs to reverse any measures it has introduced that make marriage untenable today, implement some measures to make it more secure and then butt out.
A few tweaks like that would not solve the problem and I can think of lots more measures that need to be taken, but they would make a huge difference because they would make marriages more secure for everybody.
If any western country is planning to sit by while feminists / progressivists continue to flush marriage and family down the drain, then that country might as well just get the cultural suicide over with now: Tear up your constitution, throw open you borders and your seats of government, and start printing copies of the Quran as quickly as possible.
A man wanted to get married in the past because he wanted to have a long term partnership with a supportive wife, build a family and eventually grow old surrounded by his children and grand-children.
Our system (currently) is designed to leave him with the lion’s share of the work, but rob him of the rewards. Why would a young man choose that?
We could accept that nothing is ever perfect but try to fix and preserve that which has worked so well for so long.
Or we can just continue shouting slogans; and printing copies of the Quran.

Lana can also be found here:  http://antimisandry.com/marriage-divorce-children-choice-men/59085.htm

I recommend everyone to follow that link to see a spirited and deep discussion/argument between several philosophical Men and Lana. Thou Shalt Not......

There are none so dogmatic as the irreligious secularist PC mob.

In the Tavern we have rules: just a few and mainly about p***ing on the carpet. You can argue your point, politely, raise any topic you like, take any stance you wish. All you have to do is be rational, reasonable, or at the very least raise some supernatural justification.  I will simply argue with you.

But out there in the wide world of Hillary's Village, everyone and her dog is ready to leap into action and impose some 'Shalt Nots' the moment you take a breath and part your lips.

Here is a sample  from around the world that J.J. Ray (the Prof) showed us today.
Canada: Criticizing Muslims is forbidden! verboten! vietato!
(It appears that the fellow here is homosexual so he has good reason to criticize Islam.  In a Muslim country he would be dead - JJ)
A Richmond Hill teacher has been fired following a 10-week investigation into “racist” comments critical of Islam that he allegedly posted online.  Michael Marshall was dismissed following a meeting of the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) on Tuesday, said board spokesperson Licinio Miguelo.
Miguelo said no one at the school or the board would be available to comment further.  Marshall could not be reached on Tuesday or Wednesday for comment.
The investigation began after students at Richmond Green Secondary School discovered a Twitter account, @firstatheist, which featured a profile picture of Marshall and numerous tweets mentioning pupils’ names.
The @firstatheist account tweeted more than 4,500 times, including messages that said:
“I get sad when girls I teach decide to wear the hijab. I feel like a failure,”
“Hijabs make me sad.”
“Just have a trailer full of guns roll down the street and arm the ghetto. Oh wait that’s black ppl.”
“Kinda have this perverse urge to wear a hijab for a day and twerk in the street.”
“There is an absolute s***-ton of Muslims at Ikea tonight. Any special occasion?”
“I’m sorry but sharia law is incompatible with my democratic secular nation. You can have it, but keep it over there in backward land.”
Well, clearly we can't have a person making such outrageous statements, can we.  He might get his head chopped off. He should be thankful he was simply suspended and not thrown off the Ivory Tower.
UK: You must not call residents sweetie or darling, care home staff told
Care home workers have been reprimanded for calling residents affectionate names such as sweetie, love, darling and handsome.
Critical inspectors told them the terms were ‘patronising and demeaning’ to the dozen adults with learning difficulties.
And don't praise their photos either or a proud feminazi Barrister will be on your case.
More UK: Must not criticize Pakistanis
JJ says, As Muslims, they probably deserved the criticisms concerned.  Muslims look down on "kuffars"
The Queen's representative in the West Midlands has resigned after emails containing controversial comments about the Pakistani community were leaked.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3231539/Royally-big-mistake-Queen-s-representative-quits-offensive-comments-Pakistani-community-leaked.html
In the messages, Paul Sabapathy, the lord lieutenant for the region, is reported to have said there was a 'lot of work to do' to teach Pakistanis 'basic common courtesy and civility'.
The email reportedly said: 'They talk to themselves and do not engage with the wider community. They are living in the UK not Pakistan.
'Whilst being rightly proud of their Pakistani culture and heritage they need to explain better and engage more with their non-Pakistani brothers and sisters if they want their children to succeed as British Pakistani citizens.'
The email was apparently sent after he attended an event in Birmingham marking Pakistan Independence Day on August 14.
Sabapathy, who is originally from Chennai, India, has notified Buckingham Palace of his intention to step down from the role which he has held for nearly eight years.
He was the first non-white person selected to take the role of lord lieutenant, whose first duty is to 'uphold the dignity of the Crown'.
The PC mob are 'inclusive' and will whack anyone. Almost.
France: Must not hint that Jews are preferable to Arabs
A former French minister stirred up controversy today after saying Germany 'took our Jews and gave us Arabs' as France began taking some of the thousands of refugees arriving in Germany.
Patrick Devedjian, a right-winger who served in the governments of presidents Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Sarkozy, made the remark at a press conference, but quickly tried to backtrack on social media.
'My humorous jest was misplaced,' Devedjian wrote on his Twitter account, saying he regretted it all the more because he himself helps refugees in need.
Devedjian, who comes from an Armenian family and now leads the Hauts-de-Seine region of wealthy suburbs west of Paris, said the joke was meant to be about Syrian and Iraqi refugees.
That was ridiculous, of course. The French insult everyone.  It is 'inclusive' too.
New Zealand: Must not criticize immodest women
An online petition has branded a radio host as 'inappropriate' with a 'misogynistic and sexist way of thinking' after he 'sl*t shamed' girls on air.
The petition was launched after New Zealand George FM Breakfast host Thane Kirby, together with co-host Kara Rickard, 's*** shamed' two girls by judging their Instagram photos.
In a segment which aired on Thursday, Thane and Kara labeled girls who 'sit around and post half-naked pictures of themselves' as 'do-nothing b******'.
Stuff.co.nz said a MediaWorks spokeswoman had confirmed the hosts had been suspended.
How can anyone even think that New Zealanders could be offensive? It just does not make sense.
America: Must not oppose abortion
Office Depot is standing by its refusal to print 500 anti-Planned Parenthood flyers, because the flyer is “graphic” and “hate material” that persecutes those who support abortion rights, according to a company explanation obtained The Daily Caller News Foundation.
Maria Goldstein, 42, of Illinois requested the flyers Aug. 20, but an employee refused, citing corporate policy. Goldstein said she is being discriminated against because of her religious beliefs, and obtained legal counsel.
In a letter written by attorney Robert A. Amicone, Office Depot said the refusal had nothing to do with the woman’s religious beliefs, but she disagrees.
“When I tell people they’re shocked because this is America,” Goldstein told TheDCNF Thursday. “Office Depot is trying to silence my freedom of speech and my freedom of religion.”
Goldstein planned to hand them out at her church. The flyers list facts from Planned Parenthood’s annual report and quotes a prayer calling for an end to Planned Parenthood.

I should point out that the company 'Office Depot' has since done an about face, which is in keeping with our world today. The entire place is going nuts.
